What is a remote software developer?

A Remote Software Developer is a professional who designs, builds, and maintains software applications while working from a location outside of a traditional office, often from home or another remote setting. These developers collaborate with team members using online communication and project management tools. Remote work allows for greater flexibility and access to global job opportunities, but it also requires strong self-motivation and communication skills. Companies hire remote software developers to tap into a wider talent pool and to offer flexible work arrangements.

What does a remote software developer do?

Remote software developers design and create computer software programs and systems for their employer or client. Unlike in-house software developers, remote software developers work from home or another location outside of the office. As a remote software developer, you discuss the kind of program you need to create, making sure to clarify with your department or with your client what they need in their application. You may develop an entirely new program or improve an existing one. Remote developers are responsible for a program’s overall framework, and they design precise workflow charts that explain to programmers what code is needed for different aspects of the program. Remote software developers also design tests and protocols for the QA department to follow when they are testing the application.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote software developer?

To thrive as a Remote Software Developer, you need strong programming skills, problem-solving ability, and a relevant degree or equivalent experience in computer science or software engineering. Familiarity with common development tools (such as Git, Visual Studio Code, and CI/CD platforms) and frameworks, as well as knowledge of cloud services, are typically required. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and time management skills help you collaborate effectively and stay productive in a remote setting. These skills and qualities are essential for delivering high-quality software, meeting deadlines, and contributing to distributed teams.

How do remote software developers stay connected and collaborate effectively with their teams?

Remote software developers typically use a variety of collaboration tools, such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom, to communicate with colleagues and participate in daily stand-ups or sprint planning meetings. Version control systems like GitHub or GitLab are essential for code collaboration and review. Regular check-ins, clear documentation, and agile workflows help ensure everyone stays aligned and productive despite working from different locations. Proactive communication and time management are crucial for overcoming the challenges of remote work and successfully contributing to team goals.

Job Title

AI Deployment EngineerThe AI Deployment Engineer will support the AI and automation strategy of CoorsTek by designing, developing, deploying, and supporting production software solutions that incorporate AI and automation capabilities.
This is a hands-on software engineering role. The successful candidate must have professional experience developing applications, writing and reviewing code, working with APIs and integrations, and deploying software into production or operational environments. Experience using AI tools is valuable, but it is not a substitute for demonstrated software development experience.
The role is responsible for transforming business and operational needs into secure, supportable, scalable, and measurable solutions, using approved development tools, enterprise platforms, custom code, APIs, and cloud services. Solutions may include AI-enabled applications, web applications, internal tools, automations, integrations, data-driven workflows, and plant-facing applications.
This role will collaborate with stakeholders across operations, engineering, quality, supply chain, commercial, finance, HR, and IT to understand business processes, technical requirements, and operational constraints. The primary focus is delivering working software through the full development lifecycle, including requirements, design, prototyping, development, testing, deployment, documentation, and early-stage production support.

We are an ITAR-regulated company. To be considered for employment with us, you must be either a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

This role requires approximately 40% domestic and international travel during the first year. Travel is primarily intended to build relationships, understand plant operations, and develop solutions alongside the people who will use them. The employee will have meaningful autonomy in planning travel based on business needs, project schedules, and coordination with plant and functional partners. As relationships and working practices become established, travel may decrease during the second year.

Salary range is subject to location, as this role can be remote.

  • Provide strong, hands-on guidance as users participate in solution design, prototyping, testing, refinement, and deployment. Help users make sound decisions while ensuring the resulting solutions meet enterprise technical and governance standards.
  • Manage solution delivery from initial discovery, through deployment, and early-life support, including scope, requirements, priorities, timelines, responsibilities, risks, testing, communication, and handoff.
  • Write clean, maintainable, secure, testable, and documented code using disciplined software engineering practices such as source control, code review, testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
  • Translate business and operational needs into technical designs, prototypes, working software, and scalable production applications.
  • Build application components across the front end, service tier, APIs, integrations, automation workflows, and data layer as required by each solution.
  • Diagnose defects, troubleshoot production issues, refactor prototypes, and harden internally developed or user-built solutions, for secure and supportable enterprise use.
  • Review and validate AI-generated code for correctness, security, maintainability, performance, and production readiness.
  • Establish reusable components, deployment patterns, templates, documentation, and support practices so successful solutions can be repeated across functions and manufacturing sites.
  • Partner with IT architecture, security, infrastructure, data, and application teams, to ensure solutions meet enterprise standards for identity, access, data protection, logging, resiliency, integration, and responsible AI use.
