Job description

We are in search of a Head of Engineering. As Head of Engineering, you will play a critical leadership role in overseeing the direction, performance, and scalability of our development function. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, operations, and client delivery-ensuring our technical execution is aligned with company priorities, delivered efficiently, and built to scale.

You'll lead and support a team of engineers in partnership with the Engineering Lead, establish clear priorities and processes, and serve as a senior escalation point for technical challenges across projects and clients. This role requires strong operational thinking, decisive leadership, and the ability to translate business needs into actionable engineering direction while maintaining high standards of quality and performance.

As a HEAD of ENGINEERING, this role could include:

  • Define and manage engineering priorities in alignment with company goals, timelines, and business impact.
  • Own the engineering roadmap, ensuring initiatives are strategically aligned and executed efficiently.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with Operations, Design, and Project Management to ensure seamless delivery.
  • Establish and scale development processes, standards, and workflows to improve consistency and team efficiency.
  • Oversee engineering delivery, ensuring all projects meet expectations for quality, scope, and timelines.
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement solutions to improve performance, reduce rework, and increase predictability.
  • Serve as a senior escalation point for technical challenges across client projects and internal initiatives.
  • Represent engineering in client and sales conversations, clearly communicating technical solutions and trade-offs.
  • Champion the adoption of new technologies, including AI, to improve engineering efficiency and delivery capabilities.
  • Lead and develop the engineering team in partnership with the Engineering Lead, supporting performance, growth, and technical excellence.

Required Competencies

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with significant experience in leadership or management roles.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams within an agency, eCommerce, or digital product environment.
  • Strong understanding of modern development workflows, project delivery, and scalable systems.
  • Experience working with Shopify or similar eCommerce platforms is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to align engineering execution with business strategy and client needs.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage cross-functional teams and client stakeholders.
  • Experience implementing or leveraging AI tools to improve engineering workflows and operational efficiency.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and solution-oriented with a focus on continuous improvement.
