  • You will assess damaged parts to determine the sequence of operations necessary for sheet metal repairs or replacements.
  • You will remove fixed sheet metal and composite structures from aircraft and disassemble structural and non-structural metal and composite components.
  • You will use hand or power tools to make replacement parts for aircraft structural and skin sections.
  • You will work from technical drawings, directives, manuals, and other written or verbal instructions to complete sheet metal work.
  • You will comply with safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
  • You will assist with training and/or mentoring other artisans at the same or lower level.

  • Performing a variety of complex and advanced metal repair, fabrication, plan, layout and structural disassembly/assembly of aircraft and aircraft components.
  • Working from technical directives, drawings, manuals and other written or verbal instructions and assists equivalent and lower-graded employees.
  • Removing fixed sheet metal and composite structures from aircraft, disassembles structural and non-structural metal and composite components.
  • Utilizing the characteristics and properties of any metals used in the trade, e.g., stainless steel, magnesium, honeycomb.
  • Applying methods used to assemble metal systems, including complex assembly joints, hems, and edges; AND
  • Receiving assignments, general instructions or work orders from their supervisor.

This position requires exposure to high noise levels.
Physical exertion requires heavy lifting and carrying objects up to 45lbs.
Any weight to be lifted in excess of 40lbs will not be attempted unaided.

Hearing protection must be worn for noise levels of 85 DBA and double protection is required for levels over 105 DBA.
Eye protection is required in hazardous areas in the form of approved safety glasses with side shield, goggles and face shield.
This position works at ground level and may require climbing which could exceed heights of 20 feet or more.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
