What is a remote senior content editor?

Remote Senior Content Editors are experienced professionals responsible for overseeing the creation, editing, and management of content for digital or print publications, all while working remotely. They ensure content meets quality standards, aligns with brand voice, and is optimized for the target audience. These editors often lead a team of writers and editors, assign tasks, and review submissions for accuracy and consistency. Additionally, they may collaborate with other departments, such as marketing or design, to support broader organizational goals. Remote work allows them to perform these duties from any location, using digital communication and project management tools.

How does a remote senior content editor typically collaborate with writers and other team members despite working remotely?

As a Remote Senior Content Editor, collaboration is often facilitated through digital communication platforms such as Slack, Zoom, and project management tools like Trello or Asana. You’ll regularly provide feedback to writers, coordinate with designers on visual elements, and align with marketing or SEO teams to ensure content meets strategic goals. Scheduled check-ins, virtual editorial meetings, and shared documents help maintain clear communication and workflow. Building trust and rapport remotely requires proactive communication and strong organizational skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote senior content editor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Senior Content Editor, you need advanced editing and writing skills, a strong grasp of grammar and style, and experience managing editorial workflows, often supported by a degree in English, journalism, or communications. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) like WordPress, editing tools such as Grammarly, and project management platforms like Asana is typically required. Outstanding soft skills include attention to detail, self-motivation, and effective remote communication to lead teams and collaborate across departments. These skills ensure high-quality, consistent content delivery and smooth coordination in a remote work environment.

Job description

Job Description Summary:
The Senior Content & SEO Manager owns and directs Focus Partners' organic search strategy, partnering with an established content marketing team to ensure content programs are aligned to search demand and optimized to drive qualified lead generation and high-intent traffic through the firm's owned digital properties. This role executes on-page and technical SEO, and helps build the firm's visibility in AI-driven search and answer engines (AEO), working alongside subject matter experts, advisors, and the content team to turn expertise into content that ranks, converts, and builds trust. The ideal candidate combines strong SEO fundamentals with editorial judgment and a working understanding of how content moves prospects through a high-consideration buying journey.
This position can be based out of the following locations on a hybrid basis: St. Louis, MO & Chicago, IL
Job Description:
Primary Responsibilities
  • Execute technical SEO, including internal linking, page speed, schema markup, and indexation health
  • Develop and execute the firm's local SEO strategy across a multi-location footprint to ensure each office ranks prominently for high-intent, locally relevant searches
  • Partner with the content management team to inform the editorial calendar with search-driven topic, keyword, and intent insights, supporting content from brief through publication.
  • Apply answer engine optimization (AEO) practices to grow visibility in AI-generated search results and LLM-driven discovery
  • Champion the firm's E-E-A-T (experience, expertise, authoritativeness, and trust) signals across all content and digital properties - including author and advisor credentialing, cited sources, professional schema, and compliance-friendly trust markers
  • Monitor competitor and adjacent-firm search strategies, identifying gaps and opportunities to capture share of voice in priority service and geographic markets.
  • Select and direct external agencies and freelancers, including scope and budget recommendations, and determine whether engagements continue based on performance
  • Interpret organic performance data - rankings, traffic, engagement, lead volume, and lead quality - and advise senior management on where the firm should invest
  • Work with analytics and CRM teams to ensure accurate tracking and attribution of organic-sourced leads
  • Partner with compliance and marketing communications to ensure all content meets regulatory and brand standards
  • Evaluate emerging content formats, channels, and search behaviors, and diagnose and resolve issues affecting the firm's search visibility and lead performance

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience
  • 5+ years of experience in SEO, or organic search roles, plus digital marketing
  • Demonstrated success growing organic traffic and organic-sourced leads
  • Strong command of technical SEO fundamentals and on-page optimization
  • Proficiency with SEO and analytics platforms such as Semrush, Ahrefs, Google Search Console, and GA4
  • Experience with a CMS and marketing automation platform (HubSpot experience is a plus)
  • Excellent writing and editing skills; familiarity with the wealth management and financial services landscape is a plus
  • Experience building and presenting an SEO strategy to senior leadership
  • Experience working within a regulated or compliance-reviewed content process is a plus
