Job description

Who we are

Founded in Scottsdale, Arizona, equipifi is a fast growing, early-stage SaaS fintech building the credit infrastructure for modern banking. We make Buy Now, Pay Later a native banking product by powering financial institutions with flexible financing solutions embedded within their digital banking experience. Learn more at equipifi.com

Our team is built on experience, talent, and - most importantly, attitude. We thrive in a fast-paced environment and value infinite curiosity, a people-first mindset, and a shared commitment to learning, growth, and pride in the work we do. At equipifi, we practice radical transparency, encouraging team members to move quickly, share ideas openly, and collaborate with peers who will respectfully challenge one another as we learn, build, and grow together. Success in this role comes from the ability to adapt fast, question the status quo, explore new ideas, and ask thoughtful (sometimes uncomfortable) questions - all while maintaining momentum in service of better customer outcomes. The work we do takes a village - and in an environment that moves fast, we embrace the adventure together.

Where you’ll make an impact

As a Senior Software Engineer on our Core Team, you’ll help build the operating system powering modern banking and commerce. We’ve launched a category-defining product transforming how consumers access credit through their financial institutions - and now we’re scaling the platform behind it. (Quickly, buckle up!)

You’ll work on high-throughput transaction pipelines, real-time decisioning across millions of accounts, and deep integrations with core banking systems. This is distributed-systems engineering at real scale. You’ll own features end-to-end, architect solutions alongside Product, and ship resilient, production-grade systems built to last. We move fast, lean into AI-native development, and reward curiosity. If you love experimenting with new tools, optimizing for speed without sacrificing quality, and solving hard problems - you’ll thrive here.

Outcomes You’ll Own

Scale & Performance of Core Systems Evolve the backend microservices that power our platform. You’ll improve the speed and reliability of high-volume transaction pipelines and large-scale data syncs with core banking providers - ensuring our systems are resilient, observable, and built to scale.

Architecture & End-to-End Ownership Turn strategic roadmap initiatives into scalable technical solutions (and a really, really awesome product). You’ll partner with Product to shape requirements, architect services, and own delivery from design through deployment in AWS - shipping well-tested, production-ready code through CI/CD. We have a stellar platform engineering team, but this is a shared responsibility.

AI-Native Development & Engineering Velocity Use modern AI tooling to ship high-quality software faster and smarter. We value engineers who experiment with agentic workflows, automate intentionally, and continuously improve how they build - without compromising fundamentals or code quality.

What you bring to equipifi

  • 5-7+ years of building and shipping real-world, full-stack software

  • Strong experience with TypeScript in Node.js (our primary stack). Experience with Golang for backend services? Even bigger heck yes.

  • Experience designing and scaling microservices in distributed systems - you know what breaks, why it breaks, and how to build for recovery

  • Hands-on experience with AWS, containerized deployments (ECS or similar), and infrastructure-as-code (CDK, etc.) - because shipping includes defining the environment

  • A strong testing mindset - you write code that’s built to be tested, maintained, and trusted

  • Experience with event-driven systems (Temporal would get you an extra gold star)

  • Ability to architect your own solutions - not just implement someone else’s diagram

  • Fintech or banking experience (especially with core providers) is a big plus

  • Strong product instincts, relentless curiosity, and low-ego collaboration - you care why something is being built, dig until it makes sense, and use modern AI tools to move faster and build smarter

Your future team

You’ll report to our Engineering Director, Dean Hawkins. This is a highly collaborative, low-ego environment where engineers and Product genuinely work side by side - shaping solutions together, not tossing tickets over the wall.

equipifi benefits

  • Competitive compensation includes stock options offered to all employees

  • Unlimited Paid Time Off, plus paid holidays, and parental leave

  • Flexible hybrid office/work from home philosophy.

  • 401(k) program available with 50% match up to 5%

  • Comprehensive medical, dental and vision insurance coverage with 100% of employee premiums paid for by equipifi and 50% for dependents’ premiums

  • Long-term and Short-term disability, as well as term life insurance coverage with 100% of premiums paid for by equipifi

Almost ready to apply?

We know that great candidates don’t always check every box on paper. If this role gets you excited and you feel you’d bring insight, creativity, and passion to what we are building, we strongly encourage you to apply.

Our qualifications are meant to set everyone up for success, but let’s face it - startups aren’t in the business of mundane box checking. We’re committed to building a team with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and ways of thinking, because that’s how we tackle big challenges and grow together. If you’re ready to push boundaries and contribute your unique perspective, we’d love to hear from you.

Disclosure: We use AI throughout our hiring process - to help screen applications and take notes during interviews, including pulling out key answers from the conversation for our team to reference. But every decision about who moves forward is made by a person here, not an algorithm. We're small and mighty, and we like it that way. If you'd ever like a human to take a fresh look at your application, just ask.
