Remote Semiconductor Device Engineer information

What is a remote semiconductor device engineer?

A Remote Semiconductor Device Engineer is a professional who designs, develops, and analyzes semiconductor devices such as transistors, diodes, and integrated circuits, while working from a remote location. They use specialized software and simulation tools to test device performance, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with engineering teams virtually. This role requires strong knowledge of semiconductor physics, materials, and fabrication processes, and is often found in industries like electronics, telecommunications, and computing.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote semiconductor device engineer?

A Remote Semiconductor Device Engineer requires a solid background in electrical engineering or physics, experience in device fabrication, and a thorough understanding of semiconductor physics, typically backed by a relevant degree. Proficiency with simulation tools such as TCAD, programming languages like Python or MATLAB, and experience with CAD systems are commonly expected, along with familiarity with remote collaboration platforms. Strong analytical thinking, communication, and self-motivation are essential soft skills for effectively managing complex projects and collaborating with distributed teams. Mastering these skills ensures high-quality device design, efficient teamwork, and the ability to innovate in a rapidly evolving, remote work environment.

How does a remote semiconductor device engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams despite working offsite?

Remote Semiconductor Device Engineers frequently collaborate with diverse teams such as design, fabrication, and testing through digital tools like video conferencing, shared simulation platforms, and project management software. Regular virtual meetings, clear documentation, and version-controlled repositories ensure alignment and smooth information flow. While remote work offers flexibility, it also demands proactive communication and self-discipline to keep up with rapid project developments. Building strong online relationships and participating in virtual brainstorming sessions are key to overcoming the challenges of limited in-person interaction.

Job description

Location: Remote in Europe

How You'll Make an Impact:

As a Senior Software Engineer on the POS team, you'll work directly across the core POS codebase: the React Native and Expo application, the Python and FastAPI backend service, the Terraform infrastructure, and the Argo CD and Helm deployment configuration. You'll design, build, deploy, and operate the next generation of Cloudbeds' point-of-sale experience for hospitality properties, covering staff and device access, floor and table management, menus, orders, kitchen operations, split bills, tips, payments, room charges, receipts, offline operation, and synchronization. This is a hands-on product engineering role with end-to-end ownership across application code, services, infrastructure, delivery, and production reliability. Your goal is to help us deliver a POS that is intuitive for hospitality teams, dependable under real-world conditions, and scalable across properties and markets.

Our POS Team:

The POS team owns the product and its supporting codebase end to end: the mobile application, backend service, AWS infrastructure, and Kubernetes deployment configuration. We connect on-property hospitality operations with the broader Cloudbeds platform, balancing fast product learning with the reliability required for a system used at the moment of service. You'll join a pragmatic, collaborative team that values ownership, thoughtful architecture, direct customer impact, and engineers who are comfortable working across multiple layers of the stack.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Design, build, and operate customer-facing POS experiences across React Native, Expo, TypeScript, and Python services, with a strong focus on usability and reliability
  • Develop offline-first capabilities using SQLite, write-ahead logging, synchronization, retry, and conflict-handling patterns so properties can continue operating during connectivity issues
  • Build and operate Python/FastAPI backend services that support authentication, staff and device workflows, menus, orders, payments, receipts, and hotel-system integrations
  • Design reliable APIs, data models, caching, synchronization, and recovery paths using PostgreSQL, Valkey, REST, and service integrations across the Cloudbeds platform
  • Own observability, automated testing, release quality, performance, security, and production support for customer-critical workflows
  • Own changes across the POS application, backend services, infrastructure, and deployment configuration, while collaborating closely with Product, Design, Payments, Accounting, Reservations, Infrastructure, Security, and other engineering teams
  • Contribute as a senior individual contributor through architecture decisions, code reviews, pair programming, documentation, mentoring, and continuous improvement of engineering practices

What Sets You Up for Success:

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience building, shipping, and operating production applications, with strong proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript
  • Hands-on experience with modern mobile or frontend development; React Native, Expo, React Query, Zustand, and SQLite experience is highly relevant
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including maintainable architecture, automated testing, debugging, performance, security, and operational reliability
  • Solid understanding of relational data modeling, PostgreSQL, caching, API design, distributed systems, and asynchronous or event-driven workflows
  • Experience owning cloud-native delivery and operations, including Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Argo CD, AWS, CI/CD, observability, and production incident response
  • Experience building point-of-sale or adjacent real-time transactional systems where money, inventory, and people meet at the moment of service, such as restaurant or QSR technology, retail checkout, ticketing, food delivery, or self-service kiosks
  • Experience building offline-first applications, synchronization engines, or conflict-resolution workflows
  • Experience with native mobile capabilities, app-store delivery, and hardware integrations, including receipt, kitchen, and printer peripherals, white-label or OEM hardware, and device fleet management
  • Experience with payment processing, e-invoicing, and fiscalization
  • Strong product sense and customer empathy, grounded in familiarity with hospitality or food-and-beverage operations (floor and table management, coursing, modifiers, voids and comps, shift and cash handling, and tip pooling) and the ability to turn these workflows into simple, reliable user experiences
  • Business-level English fluency, with strong written communication and collaboration skills in a remote, globally distributed team
