Remote security professionals often encounter challenges such as staying updated on the latest cyber threats, ensuring secure communication across distributed teams, and maintaining visibility into remote endpoints. To address these issues, it's important to leverage advanced monitoring tools, participate in regular security training, and establish clear protocols for incident response. Collaboration with IT, compliance, and other security team members is essential, typically facilitated through secure communication platforms and regular virtual meetings.

Can remote security guards work from home?

Remote security guards can work from home if their role involves monitoring security systems, surveillance cameras, or alarm systems remotely. These positions typically require specialized software, communication tools, and sometimes certifications, and may involve shift work or on-call responsibilities. Not all security guard roles are suitable for remote work, especially those requiring physical patrols or on-site presence.

To thrive as a Remote Security Specialist, you need a thorough understanding of cybersecurity principles, risk assessment, and network security protocols, often demonstrated through a degree in computer science or a related field and certifications such as CISSP or CEH. Familiarity with security information and event management (SIEM) tools, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and remote access technologies is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills set standout professionals apart in this role. These competencies are crucial for proactively identifying threats, protecting remote assets, and ensuring seamless collaboration with distributed teams.

What is remote security?

Remote security jobs are positions in the cybersecurity field that can be performed from any location, typically outside a traditional office environment. These roles involve protecting computer systems, networks, and data from cyber threats, often using specialized tools and software. Common responsibilities include monitoring for security breaches, responding to incidents, and ensuring systems comply with security standards. Remote security professionals might work for companies directly, for managed security service providers, or as consultants. This flexibility allows organizations to access global talent and enables professionals to work from home or other remote locations.

Apply
Our mission is to automate coding. The first step in our journey is to build the best tool for professional programmers, using a combination of inventive research, design, and engineering. Our organization is very flat, and our team is small and talent dense. We particularly like people who are truth-seeking, passionate, and creative. We enjoy spirited debate, crazy ideas, and shipping code.
About the Role
Security Software Engineers help us ship secure products end-to-end-covering enterprise security, cloud/infrastructure, and protections embedded directly in our products. You'll build the tools and features that safeguard our platform and editor and protect our customers.
You may be a fit if
  • You are a strong software engineer first, with security as your superpower.
  • You think like both a builder and an attacker: you anticipate vulnerabilities before they become issues.
  • You care about developer experience, building solutions that are secure and frictionless.
  • You're comfortable moving quickly, owning problems end to end, and iterating with limited guidance.
  • You have experience building or scaling secure systems in fast-moving environments.
  • You have strong opinions on secure defaults, but can balance pragmatism with rigor.
  • You enjoy working on small, high-talent teams where impact is magnified.
  • You're motivated by protecting developers and users, and you see security as an enabler.

Sample projects include
  • Build AI augmented code review to get involved in important systems at the right time
  • Build a least-privilege and JIT system for cloud access that enables engineers and enforces least privileges.
  • Implement a safe environment for agents to engage with code
  • Implement a framework for securely handling agent manipulation of user systems (e.g., MCP tool calls and command execution).
  • Implement a paved road for preventing inappropriate data from being logged

Applying
If there appears to be a fit, we'll reach to schedule 2-3 short technicals. After, we'll schedule an onsite in our office, where you'll work on a small project, discuss ideas, and meet the team.
