Remote Scada Analyst information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote SCADA Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote SCADA Analyst, you need a solid background in industrial automation, networking, and information technology, often supported by a degree in engineering or computer science. Familiarity with SCADA software (such as Wonderware, GE iFIX, or Siemens WinCC), cybersecurity protocols, and remote monitoring tools is typically required, along with relevant certifications like CompTIA Security+ or ISA/IEC 62443. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are vital for quickly diagnosing issues and collaborating with cross-functional teams. These competencies are essential for ensuring the reliability, security, and efficiency of critical infrastructure managed through SCADA systems.

How does a Remote SCADA Analyst typically collaborate with on-site engineering teams?

As a Remote SCADA Analyst, you will frequently collaborate with on-site engineering and operations teams to monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize control systems in real time. Communication is usually carried out through digital channels like video calls, instant messaging, and shared dashboards, ensuring that issues are identified and addressed promptly. You may also participate in regular virtual meetings to discuss system performance, plan upgrades, and coordinate maintenance activities. Building strong working relationships and clear communication skills are key to ensuring seamless operations and effective problem-solving from a remote setting.

What is a Remote SCADA Analyst?

A Remote SCADA Analyst is a professional responsible for monitoring, managing, and analyzing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems from a remote location. These systems are used to control and gather data from industrial processes such as manufacturing, utilities, and energy distribution. The analyst ensures the SCADA network is operating efficiently, troubleshoots issues, analyzes data trends, and supports cybersecurity measures. Remote SCADA Analysts often work with engineers and IT staff to optimize system performance and maintain compliance with industry regulations.

Job description

Job Description Job Description Job Title: SCADA Technician Job Description This role focuses on owning, maintaining, and evolving a nationwide SCADA system that remotely monitors and controls automated water treatment equipment deployed at industrial plants. The SCADA Technician works primarily in an office environment, collaborating closely with controls engineering and IT/database partners to ensure reliable data flow, system performance, and continuous improvement of the SCADA platform. The position is ideal for a creative, hands-on SCADA professional who can work independently, take full ownership of problems, and drive enhancements in a growing, sustainability-focused organization.

Responsibilities Own the SCADA side of the system, focusing on remote monitoring and control of automated water treatment equipment deployed across multiple industrial sites. Maintain and enhance the existing SCADA platform, ensuring it remains reliable, secure, and aligned with operational needs. Design, configure, and implement new SCADA functionality to support additional equipment, new control skids, and future deployments.

Support integration of new equipment into the SCADA system, ensuring consistent and accurate data acquisition, visualization, and control. Monitor how data flows between SCADA, databases, and cloud-connected systems, and troubleshoot issues to maintain reliable system operation. Collaborate closely with the controls engineering group to ensure SCADA interfaces correctly with PLC-controlled systems, without directly programming PLCs.

Work with IT and database stakeholders to ensure data is stored, managed, and accessed correctly across the system. Analyze system performance and propose creative solutions and improvements to enhance usability, reliability, and functionality. Take end-to-end ownership of issues within the SCADA environment, from identification and root-cause analysis through resolution and follow-up.

Document SCADA configurations, changes, and enhancements to support long-term maintainability and knowledge sharing. Participate in brainstorming and technical discussions to improve overall system architecture, especially around cloud integration concepts. Provide ongoing support for remote monitoring software and HMI interfaces related to water and wastewater treatment processes.

Essential Skills Minimum 3–5 years of experience in the design and implementation of SCADA remote monitoring and control systems for automated controls equipment. Relevant hands-on SCADA experience with the ability to contribute immediately and work with minimal supervision. Experience with B&R Automation or an alternative SCADA platform such as Ignition.

Strong understanding of how SCADA systems interact with databases and cloud environments. Familiarity with databases and data flows between systems in an industrial automation context. Experience working with remote monitoring software, SCADA, and HMI systems.

Exposure to water or wastewater treatment processes and associated instrumentation. Ability to work independently and with limited supervision while taking full ownership of assigned systems and issues. Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to brainstorm and implement practical technical solutions.

Comfort working as the primary SCADA engineer without reliance on a large SCADA team. Additional Skills & Qualifications Ideal candidates bring a coding background that supports scripting, customization, or integration within SCADA environments. Familiarity with PLCs is a strong plus, even though the role does not include ladder logic or PLC programming.

Understanding of cloud integration concepts and how cloud-connected systems interact with SCADA and databases. Experience supporting industrial plants such as paper mills, food processing facilities, poultry plants, or similar environments. Ability to collaborate effectively with controls engineers and IT/database professionals to ensure cohesive system performance.

Strong communication skills to explain technical issues and solutions clearly to cross-functional partners. Work Environment The role is almost entirely office-based, with very little to no travel to client sites, as field engineers handle on-site work and commissioning. The SCADA Technician works in a collaborative environment alongside a senior controls engineer who owns PLC controls and skid operations, and an IT/database partner who manages databases and infrastructure.

The position is intended to be on-site rather than remote, with a strong preference for a local candidate who can be in the office five days per week, especially at the start. The company operates and monitors its own water treatment equipment at industrial customer sites nationwide, using control skids that are remotely monitored and controlled via SCADA. The SCADA system is already functional but requires ongoing maintenance, enhancements, and support for new equipment and future deployments, providing a dynamic, evolving work environment rather than a static support role.

Employees contribute to sustainable water treatment and environmental innovation, helping industries reduce chemical usage and improve safety, within a culture that emphasizes collaboration and opportunities for growth and advancement. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Longmont, CO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $58.00/hr.

Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
