AT ARU, WE DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY.
For a decade, ARU has built a high-performing, solutions-driven culture rooted in continuous improvement and a willingness to run toward hard-to-underwrite risks. We thrive in complex, demanding markets because we approach problems with curiosity, creativity, and a determination to find a way forward.
When you join ARU, you become part of a team that looks for opportunities where others see obstacles. We identify gaps, design tailored solutions, and adapt as the market evolves. If you are energized by solving tough problems, learning quickly, and making a meaningful impact, you will fit right in.
OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS
ARU is seeking a Staff Accountant to support accurate, timely accounting operations and financial reporting. This is a developing role for an accountant who is ready to build ownership of routine general ledger, reconciliation, billing, and close activities while gaining exposure to the accounting needs of a growing specialty insurance organization.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
General Accounting and Close
  • Prepare routine journal entries, accruals, schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Complete assigned bank, credit card, balance sheet, and general ledger reconciliations; research discrepancies and recommend corrections.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities by meeting deadlines, maintaining complete workpapers, and escalating issues promptly.
  • Maintain daily cash receipt and cash flow registers; assist with budget-to-actual and account variance analysis and provide clear supporting details to Accounting leadership.
Billing, Payments, and Partner Support
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions in accordance with ARU procedures and approval requirements.
  • Support insurance billing activities, including payment application, policy cancellations, refunds, and monthly broker commission processing.
  • Respond professionally and promptly to internal, broker, vendor, and other accounting inquiries; coordinate with Underwriting and business partners to resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain organized transaction records and perform quality-control checks for completeness and accuracy.
Reporting, Audit, and Compliance Support
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in accordance with GAAP and ARU procedures.
  • Prepare schedules, documentation, and responses for external audits, tax filings, and other financial reviews.
  • Support year-end reporting, Forms 1099, and assigned insurance-related, premium tax, statutory, or regulatory activities.
Systems, Controls, and Improvement
  • Use ARU's accounting and collaboration technology accurately and securely, including Sage Intacct, Bill.com, and Google Workspace.
  • Document new and revised processes in the central accounting manual and maintain assigned month-end checklist items.
  • Identify practical opportunities to improve accuracy, strengthen controls, reduce manual work, and streamline workflows.
  • Support accounting system implementations, testing, conversions, and other duties or special projects consistent with the role's level and business needs.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a closely related field with sufficient accounting coursework.
  • One to three years of relevant accounting experience; a strong accounting internship or cooperative education experience may count toward the requirement.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, and basic financial statement relationships.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets and modern business technology, with the ability to learn new financial systems quickly.
  • Consistent attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to protect confidential financial and business information.
  • Ability to organize recurring work, meet close and payment deadlines, communicate barriers early, and shift priorities when business needs change.
  • Professional written and verbal communication, a service-oriented approach,
  • Ability to work effectively in ARU's collaborative remote environment during established business hours.
  • Demonstrates intellectual curiosity about artificial intelligence and a commitment to developing proficiency in identifying and applying AI tools to improve accounting processes, analysis, and decision-making.
Preferred
  • Experience in insurance, financial services, an MGA/MGU, or another regulated industry.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, Bill.com, Google Workspace, ERP systems, billing, payment processing, or broker/commission accounting.
  • Exposure to financial reporting, external audits, internal controls, premium accounting, statutory accounting principles, or regulatory filings.
WHY ARU?
Work alongside top-tier professionals in a highly collaborative environment where excellence is more than a word - it is our mindset. At ARU, we challenge each other to think bigger, move faster, and continuously improve. We win together.
Compensation and Financial Benefits
  • The anticipated base salary range for this role is $60,000-$80,000 annually. Actual base pay is determined by the candidate's relevant experience, qualifications, and geographic location, evaluated against ARU's internal pay equity standards. This role is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on company performance.
  • Employees in this role are eligible to participate in ARU's immediately vested 401(k) match and additional benefits outlined below.
Health, Wellness, and Time Away
  • 100% company-paid employee-only medical coverage and an employer-supported Health Savings Account.
  • Dental and vision offerings, telehealth, EAP, dependent care FSA, pet insurance, and wellness discounts; paid time off with service-based increases, paid company holidays, and leave programs.
Growth and Remote Work
  • Professional development reimbursement and opportunities to expand accounting and insurance knowledge.
  • A collaborative remote workplace and the opportunity to grow responsibilities as proficiency, judgment, and business knowledge develop.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This position performs primarily computer-based work in a remote office environment and requires regular use of video meetings, telephone, email, financial systems, and electronic records. The employee must be able to communicate effectively, maintain a secure and reliable workspace, and perform detailed work for extended periods.
