Job description

Overview
DecisionPoint seeks a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to support secure, high-performance database operations within a large-scale federal and DoD-aligned mission environment. This role is responsible for enterprise database installation, patching, performance tuning, indexing design, high availability (HA) configurations, clustering, backup and recovery operations, and RMF control support across AU, AC, and SC control families.
The Senior DBA ensures the security, integrity, and reliability of mission-critical data systems while working closely with application development, cybersecurity, and infrastructure teams to support IL5-compliant environments.
This position is fully remote.
Duties & Responsibilities
The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) will:
  • Install, configure, and maintain enterprise database platforms across multiple environments.
  • Perform database patching, upgrades, schema updates, and configuration changes.
  • Design and optimize indexing strategies, query plans, and database structures to improve performance.
  • Implement and maintain High Availability (HA), clustering, replication, and failover capabilities.
  • Conduct performance tuning, diagnose bottlenecks, and resolve complex database issues.
  • Manage backup and recovery operations, ensuring data integrity and minimal downtime.
  • Support RMF security control families (AU, AC, SC) through logging, auditing, encryption, and access control configuration.
  • Apply STIGs, security patches, and DoD cybersecurity requirements to database systems.
  • Collaborate with developers on stored procedures, data modeling, and performance optimization.
  • Coordinate with cybersecurity teams to address vulnerabilities, scan results, and compliance artifacts.
  • Maintain operational documentation, configuration baselines, and database runbooks.
  • Provide technical support during deployments, release cycles, and environment refreshes.
  • Mentor junior DBAs and contribute to continuous improvement of database operations.

Qualifications
Clearance Requirement
Must hold an active Top Secret clearance, supported by a Tier 5 background investigation.
Education (Required)
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Database Administration, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
Experience (Required)
  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a Database Administrator in enterprise environments.
  • Experience with installation, patching, configuration, performance tuning, and indexing optimization.
  • Experience implementing HA, clustering, replication, or failover strategies.
  • Experience supporting RMF security controls, particularly AU, AC, and SC families.
  • Experience with database backup, restore, and disaster recovery practices.
  • Experience applying STIGs, security settings, and DoD cybersecurity requirements.

Technical Knowledge (Required)
  • Proficiency in relational database platforms (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL).
  • Strong SQL skills including query optimization and execution plan analysis.
  • Knowledge of database auditing, logging, encryption, and access control.
  • Familiarity with IL5 cloud database hosting patterns.
  • Experience using monitoring and performance analytics tools.

Technical Knowledge (Preferred)
  • Experience with automation, scripting, or Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Familiarity with cloud-native database services (AWS RDS, Aurora, etc.).
  • Experience supporting CI/CD database integration.

Certifications
Required:
  • CompTIA Security+

Preferred:
