NV5 is currently seeking a Senior Archaeologist to join our dynamic Cultural Resource Group at our Parsippany, NJ office. We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a minimum of 5 years of experience in archaeological project supervisory experience, particularly in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. In this role, you will take the lead as principal investigator for Phase I, Phase II, and/or Phase III surveys under the guidance of our Director. An option for remote work for non-field duties is available. Senior Archaeologist

Successful applicants must demonstrate their ability to author technical reports, analyze archaeological assemblages, and conduct background research and archaeological fieldwork. You will be responsible for executing tasks in accordance with client and permitting requirements, NV5 standards, and industry best practices. Proficiency in software tools such Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat is required. Proficiency using ArcMap/ArcPro, AutoCad, Adobe Illustrator, and other relevant design/GIS platforms is a plus.

Our projects encompass both public and private clients, including organizations like the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA), New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), and New York City’s Department of Design and Construction (DDC). This role will involve contributing to multiple projects in the Parsippany area and nearby offices, occasionally requiring travel to project sites in the region. Experience conducting archaeological fieldwork in New York City is preferred.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Work under the supervision of the Director and alongside other staff.
  • Supervise and conduct archaeological fieldwork.
  • Author archaeological survey reports, including pre-contact and historic contexts.
  • Prepare field mapping and graphics for report production.
  • Analyze pre-contact and historic cultural material recovered from the Mid-Atlantic region.
  • Conduct research at regional, local, and digital repositories.
  • Maintain and organize digital project files.
  • Participation in professional organizations and local/regional conferences.

  • Must meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Standards in Archaeology by possessing an M.A. or Ph.D. in Anthropology/Archaeology. RPA registration is preferred.
  • Experience conducting fieldwork in New York City is preferred.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience with ArcMap/ArcPro, AutoCad, Adobe Illustrator or other design/GIS programs is a plus.
  • Strong communications skills.
  • Experience with technical writing and Historic Preservation Office guidelines and standards.
  • A writing sample will be requested if interviewed.

The pay range for this position is $65,000.00 to 75,000.00 per year. Base pay offered for this role may vary and can be higher or lower depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to base pay, this position may be eligible for a comprehensive range of medical, financial, and other benefits, depending on the role offered. This disclosure is provided in accordance with New York Senate Bill S1326. Base pay information is determined by market location.
