Remote Robot Design information

How to become a robot designer?

To become a remote robot designer, typically a bachelor's degree in robotics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science is required. Gaining skills in CAD software, programming languages like Python or C++, and understanding of sensors and actuators are essential, along with experience in robotics projects or internships.

What engineering jobs pay $500,000?

Engineering roles such as senior aerospace engineers, petroleum engineers, and certain software engineering positions can reach or exceed $500,000 annually, often with experience, advanced skills, and in high-demand industries. Executive or specialized roles in engineering firms may also offer compensation at this level, especially with bonuses and stock options.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Robot Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Robot Designer, you need a strong background in mechanical engineering, robotics, and computer-aided design (CAD), typically supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with programming languages (such as Python or C++), robotics simulation software (like ROS or Gazebo), and version control systems is essential. Creative problem-solving, effective remote communication, and strong project management skills help individuals excel in collaborative, distributed teams. These abilities are vital to efficiently design, prototype, and refine robotic systems while working remotely with cross-functional teams.

Can a robotics engineer work remotely?

Robotics engineers can often work remotely, especially in roles focused on design, programming, and simulation that require computer-based tasks. However, some positions may require on-site presence for hardware testing, assembly, or maintenance. The feasibility depends on the company's policies and the specific responsibilities of the role.

What is remote robot design?

Remote robot design involves creating, developing, and testing robotic systems from a distance, often using digital tools and online collaboration platforms. Designers use software to plan and simulate robot functions, enabling teams to work together without being physically present in the same location. This approach allows for greater flexibility, access to global expertise, and the ability to rapidly prototype and iterate on ideas. Remote robot design is increasingly popular in industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, and research, where collaboration across different regions is essential.

Which 5 jobs will survive AI?

Remote robot design professionals are likely to see continued demand for roles involving complex problem-solving, creativity, and hands-on skills that AI cannot easily replicate. Jobs in fields such as robotics engineering, AI system integration, technical maintenance, and specialized manufacturing are expected to persist due to their reliance on human expertise and adaptability. Skills in programming, systems analysis, and interdisciplinary knowledge will remain valuable in these areas.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote robot design roles?

One of the main challenges in remote robot design is effective collaboration with team members who may be distributed across different time zones and disciplines, such as mechanical engineering, software development, and electronics. Clear communication and strong project management skills are essential to align design specifications and integrate feedback efficiently. Additionally, testing prototypes and troubleshooting issues remotely can require creative use of simulation tools and remote access technologies. Professionals in this field often need to be proactive in seeking input and sharing progress to ensure project milestones are met and the final product meets performance expectations.

Job description

Simbe Robotics is a leading retail robotics company providing in-store intelligence solutions that help retailers optimize operations, improve shelf execution, and deliver valuable data insights. Our autonomous robots and multi-modal data collection systems are transforming how retailers manage inventory and make data-driven decisions.

Summary:
Simbe's robots operate in live retail environments around the clock - and the Senior Fleet Operations Engineer is the technical force keeping them that way. This role sits at the intersection of hands-on electromechanical work and remote systems monitoring, requiring sharp diagnostic instincts, strong customer communication, and the technical range to move between field repairs and command-line troubleshooting.
This is a high-ownership role on a small, fast-moving team. The work is varied, the stakes are real, and no two days look the same.
Responsibilities
  • Travel to customer stores to perform hardware maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and retrofits on deployed robots
  • Remotely monitor robot fleets, respond to escalated alerts, and troubleshoot issues via remote login
  • Support third-party field technicians by phone and remote access during on-site work
  • Coordinate directly with customer store teams to resolve operational issues
  • Identify recurring failure patterns and contribute to long-term fixes and process improvements
Schedule and Travel
  • Local travel within a 90-minute radius - up to 50% of working time
  • Domestic travel for occasional deployments or team needs - up to 15%
  • Remote on-call support required on approximately one-third of weekends
Qualifications Required
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience assembling or repairing complex electromechanical systems
  • Proven troubleshooting skills across video, networking, and computer systems
  • Proficiency with Linux CLI and shell scripting
  • Comfort with web-based live control and monitoring tools
  • Clear, professional communication - written and verbal - for both customer and internal audiences
  • Based in or near the greater Portland OR, Seattle WA, or Las Vegas NV areas
  • Prior experience in field service, robotics, or deployment-heavy technical roles
$80,000 - $105,000 a year
The base salary offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including equity compensation, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
What We're Looking For
The strongest candidates will be self-directed problem-solvers who take ownership in the field without waiting to be told what to do. They communicate proactively with customers, escalate when appropriate, and bring a service mindset to every interaction - whether that's a store manager waiting on a repair or an engineer asking for remote support.

At Simbe, you will be at the forefront of retail innovation, working with cutting-edge AI and robotics technologies to transform retail operations. Our culture is dynamic, inclusive, and driven by a passion for improving the way retailers operate and serve their customers. Join us to be a part of a team that is not only reshaping the future of retail but also offering immense value to our clients worldwide.
