Remote Roaming Engineer information

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Roaming Engineers and how can they be addressed?

Remote Roaming Engineers often encounter challenges related to diagnosing network issues across multiple carriers and regions without being physically present on-site. Effective communication with local teams and leveraging remote diagnostic tools are key to overcoming these hurdles. Staying up-to-date with the latest roaming protocols and maintaining a flexible schedule to accommodate different time zones also help in resolving issues efficiently. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, such as network operations and customer support, is essential for timely problem resolution and service optimization.

What is the difference between Remote Roaming Engineer vs Network Engineer?

AspectRemote Roaming EngineerNetwork Engineer
CredentialsBachelor's in Telecommunications, Networking, or related field; certifications like CCNA, CCNPBachelor's in Computer Science, Networking, or related; certifications like CCNA, CompTIA Network+
Work EnvironmentRemote, often collaborating with telecom providers and field teamsOn-site or hybrid, managing network infrastructure and configurations
Industry UsageTelecommunications, mobile networks, roaming servicesIT, enterprise networks, service providers

While both roles require networking knowledge and certifications like CCNA, Remote Roaming Engineers focus on mobile roaming and telecom-specific issues remotely, whereas Network Engineers typically manage broader network infrastructure on-site or hybrid. The roles overlap in credentials and industry but differ in work environment and specific focus areas.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Roaming Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Roaming Engineer, you need a solid understanding of mobile telecommunications, GSM/UMTS/LTE networks, and international roaming protocols, typically backed by a degree in telecommunications or a related field. Familiarity with network monitoring tools, signaling analyzers, and certifications such as CCNA or vendor-specific credentials is often required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills are crucial for resolving complex roaming issues and coordinating with global teams. These abilities ensure seamless connectivity for roaming subscribers and efficient troubleshooting in a fast-paced, interconnected environment.

What is a Remote Roaming Engineer?

A Remote Roaming Engineer is a telecommunications professional who specializes in configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting roaming services for mobile networks, often while working remotely. Their main responsibilities include ensuring seamless international and national roaming for subscribers, analyzing network performance, and resolving issues related to connectivity or interoperability between different operators. They collaborate with operators, vendors, and internal teams to optimize roaming agreements, test new services, and maintain compliance with industry standards. This role requires expertise in mobile network technologies such as GSM, LTE, and 5G, as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Job description

Position: Solution Architect

Location: Richardson, Texas or Harrisburg, Pennsylvania or Remote

Reporting to: CTO (based in Europe)

Travel: Occasional domestic and international travel may be required for customer engagements, deployments, and industry events.

Role:

The Solution Architect acts as a senior technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) across pre-sales and professional services engagements, leading the architectural design of advanced mobile network solutions for wholesale and enterprise customers.

The role is responsible for translating customer, market, and business requirements into scalable, secure, and commercially viable mobile network architectures. Working closely with Sales, Engineering, Product, and strategic partners, the Solution Architect retains architectural ownership throughout the customer lifecycle while supporting delivery teams during implementation and onboarding.

This position is hands-on at the architectural level, customer-facing, and commercially aware, while remaining focused on design leadership rather than day-to-day operational execution.

The Solution Architect must demonstrate deep expertise across mobile core network technologies, including:

  • 2G, 3G, and LTE EPC architectures.
  • 5G Standalone (SA) and Non-Standalone (NSA) core networks.
  • Service-Based Architecture (SBA) network functions and interfaces.
  • Open-source core platforms and their production deployment.

The role provides architectural leadership across virtualization, containerization, and cloud-native deployment models, ensuring solutions are secure, resilient, and operationally scalable.

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Pre-Sales
    • Capture and qualify customer technical requirements in close partnership with the Sales team, ensuring alignment with Limitless Mobile?s strategy, target markets, and solution portfolio.
    • Lead technical discovery sessions to understand customer needs, constraints, and success criteria.
    • Translate customer requirements into high-level solution architectures that are technically robust and commercially viable.
    • Present architectural concepts and solution designs to customers through workshops, conference calls, and on-site meetings.
    • Support the development of technical content for proposals, RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs, including architectural diagrams and written responses.
  • Projects
    • Define and own High-Level Design (HLD) documentation for contracted customers.
    • Work closely with Engineering to ensure architectural intent is clearly understood prior to implementation.
    • Provide architectural oversight and guidance during deployment and onboarding phases.
    • Support Engineering with complex technical challenges and escalations where architectural input is required.
    • Deliver technical consultancy as part of professional services engagements.
  • Operations
    • Provide technical account management for live wholesale customers, including Tier 3 support, if needed.
    • Act as a Tier-3 technical escalation point for complex issues requiring architectural analysis.
    • Provide technical account oversight for strategic wholesale customers, ensuring architectural consistency and long-term solution integrity.
    • Support root-cause analysis and post-incident reviews for major service-impacting events.
  • Product Development
    • Design end-to-end mobile network architectures supporting LTE, 5G SA, and NSA deployments.
    • Define and guide cloud-native and containerized deployments using Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
    • Advise on integration with Service Communication Proxy (SCP), SEPP, roaming, and interconnect platforms.
    • Provide strategic input to the CTO on emerging technologies, evolving customer requirements, and industry trends.
    • Evaluate infrastructure enhancements, vendors, and potential technical partnerships.
    • Act as the primary technical interface between Limitless Mobile, internal teams, and strategic suppliers.
  • Security, Interconnect & Compliance
    • Advise on interconnect security and regulatory compliance, including ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 27011 alignment.
    • Design secure inter-PLMN connectivity, including SEPP architecture, TLS certificate management, and HTTP/2 signalling.
    • Ensure architectural compliance with lawful intercept, emergency services, and regulatory frameworks where applicable.
  • Skills Development
    • Maintain and develop expertise across mobile core networks, cloud-native infrastructure, and emerging technologies.
    • Attend vendor briefings, technical training, and industry events as outlined by management.
    • Stay current with relevant 3GPP, GSMA, IETF, and industry standards.

Performance Measurement:

  • Based on a combination of factors including:
    • Contribution to new customer and project wins as well as solution viability.
    • Revenue and gross margin impact of designed solutions.
    • Architectural quality, scalability and reusability.
    • Effectiveness of collaboration with Sales, Engineering and Product teams.
    • Customer satisfaction with technical engagement and outcomes.

Desired Expertise & Experience:
