Remote Rn information

What are some common challenges remote RNs face and how can they overcome them?

Remote RNs often encounter challenges such as limited direct patient interaction, reliance on digital communication, and the need to manage their time independently. To overcome these, it's important to develop strong telehealth communication skills, stay organized with digital tools, and maintain regular check-ins with both patients and colleagues. Building a supportive network within the healthcare team and seeking ongoing training in remote care best practices can also help remote RNs stay connected and effective in their roles.

What is the difference between Remote Rn vs Remote Lpn?

AspectRemote RnRemote Lpn
Required CredentialsRegistered Nurse (RN) license, BSN often preferredLicensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license
Work EnvironmentHospitals, clinics, telehealth platformsLong-term care, home health, telehealth
Employer & Industry UsageHospitals, healthcare providers, telehealth companiesLong-term care facilities, home health agencies

Remote Rns typically hold a registered nurse license and work in hospitals or telehealth settings, providing comprehensive patient care. Remote Lpns, with a practical nurse license, often work in long-term care or home health. While both roles involve remote patient interaction, Rns usually handle more complex cases, whereas Lpns focus on basic patient care tasks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote RN, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote RN, you need a valid RN license, strong clinical judgment, and experience in patient assessment and care coordination. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic health records (EHRs), and secure communication tools is essential. Outstanding communication, self-motivation, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for effective remote patient interaction and teamwork. These capabilities ensure high-quality, patient-centered care while maintaining compliance and efficiency in a virtual healthcare environment.

How to become a remote RN?

To become a remote nurse, you need the same training, education, and qualifications that non-remote nurses possess, namely nursing licensure in your state. Some virtual RN roles may also require some period of on-site training to learn procedures. Since your duties include performing patient triage via telephone, webcam, or chat apps, you also need strong technical skills and a high-speed internet connection. Fluency in more than one language is a big plus, as is a strong track record of success in self-directed roles. Additionally, a variety of telehealth certifications are available, and these increase your appeal with potential employers.

What is the best remote job for registered nurses?

Remote registered nurses typically work as telehealth nurses, providing patient care and health education via phone or video consultations. They often require nursing licensure, strong communication skills, and familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems. These roles offer flexible schedules and the ability to work from home while delivering clinical support.

What is a remote RN?

Remote RNs, or Remote Registered Nurses, are licensed nurses who provide patient care, support, and education from a distance using telehealth technology. They may work for hospitals, clinics, insurance companies, or telemedicine providers and can perform tasks like triage, patient assessments, care coordination, and health coaching via phone or video calls. Remote RNs help expand access to healthcare, especially for patients in rural or underserved areas, while maintaining the high standards of nursing practice.

Job description

Phone Triage Nurse (RN or LPN)

Special Deliveries Midwifery
Remote | Monday–Friday | 8:30 AM–4:30 PM

Special Deliveries Midwifery is looking for a compassionate and experienced RN or LPN to join our team as a Remote Phone Triage Nurse.

We are a faith-based, family-centered midwifery practice that believes caring for our patients starts with caring for our team. We value kindness, flexibility, and work-life balance as much as clinical excellence.

If you're looking to step away from the stress of bedside nursing without leaving patient care, this may be the perfect fit. Our nurses work from home in a supportive, low-stress environment where they can continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of mothers and babies.

Whether you want more time with your children, need flexibility to care for an aging parent, enjoy traveling, or simply want to trade hospital chaos for a calmer pace, we'd love to hear from you.

Schedule

  • Monday–Friday
  • 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM
  • 100% Remote

Preferred Experience

  • Current RN or LPN license
  • Obstetrics (OB), postpartum, or newborn experience preferred
  • Phone triage or outpatient nursing experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Provide phone triage and assess patient concerns using sound nursing judgment.
  • Answer patient questions and provide education regarding pregnancy, postpartum, newborn care, medications, and procedures.
  • Interpret laboratory results and communicate provider recommendations.
  • Explain procedures and provider recommendations in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Schedule appointments and coordinate referrals.
  • Create new patient charts and maintain electronic medical records.
  • Review patient charts for medical alerts, medications, allergies, and health conditions.
  • Prepare and send provider orders.
  • Fax records and communicate with outside offices.
  • Utilize medical terminology and basic ICD-10 coding as needed.
  • Assist with other administrative and clinical support duties.

We're Looking For Someone Who...

  • Has excellent critical thinking and communication skills.
  • Is organized and works well independently.
  • Has compassion and patience for serving the Amish community.
  • Appreciates natural and holistic approaches to healthcare or is willing to learn.
  • Enjoys building relationships with patients.
  • Shares our faith-based commitment to serving families with kindness, respect, and compassion.

What We Offer

  • Fully remote position
  • Monday–Friday schedule with no nights, weekends, or holidays
  • Supportive, fun, close-knit team
  • Relaxed, low-stress work environment
  • Meaningful work helping mothers, babies, and families
  • Two weeks of paid time off
  • A position that allows you to better balance work with family, caregiving, travel, and life

If you're ready to leave behind the fast pace of bedside nursing and join a team that values both excellent patient care and a healthy work-life balance, we'd love to hear from you.

To Apply: Please send your resume and a brief cover letter telling us why you'd be a great fit for our team.
