Position Summary
The Adjunct Professor for the School of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering (SBCE) will serve as the primary liaison between SBCE's Clinical Immersion Program and UCHealth. This position facilitates and coordinates clinical immersion experiences for biomedical engineering students within hospital and clinical settings. Students participating in the program will complete clinical rotations alongside healthcare professionals to identify unmet clinical needs, evaluate opportunities for biomedical device innovation, and assess potential improvements to existing technologies and workflows.
The Adjunct Professor will be a current UCHealth-employed physician, nurse practitioner, or registered nurse who provides clinical coordination, student mentorship, and assignment oversight to ensure program learning objectives and experiential goals are achieved.

Brief Work Unit Description
The School of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering (SBCE) is an interdisciplinary academic unit focused on advancing education, research, and innovation at the intersection of engineering, medicine, and healthcare. The Clinical Immersion Program provides students with direct exposure to clinical environments, enabling them to better understand healthcare challenges and develop innovative biomedical engineering solutions informed by real-world clinical practice.
Essential Job Duties
  • Coordinate and facilitate clinical immersion experiences for SBCE students within UCHealth clinical environments.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between SBCE faculty, students, and UCHealth clinical staff to support program operations and experiential learning objectives.
  • Develop, assign, and oversee student clinical activities and observational assignments to ensure alignment with educational goals and hospital requirements.
  • Mentor and guide students in identifying unmet clinical needs, workflow inefficiencies, and opportunities for biomedical device development or improvement.
  • Ensure student compliance with applicable hospital policies, confidentiality requirements, professional conduct expectations, and safety protocols during clinical rotations.

Conditions of Employment
  • Must maintain active employment with UCHealth throughout the duration of the appointment.
  • Must maintain applicable professional licensure and credentials in good standing, as required for their clinical role.
  • Must comply with all institutional, hospital, and university policies related to patient privacy, safety, and professional conduct.
  • Ability to work within hospital and clinical environments.

Supervision
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current employee of UCHealth serving in one of the following clinical roles: Physician (MD or DO), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, clinicians, and healthcare staff.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple student assignments and clinical interactions simultaneously.
  • Ability to mentor and guide students in professional clinical environments.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, interpersonal skills, and collaborative abilities in interdisciplinary healthcare settings.
  • Ability to facilitate experiential learning opportunities and support educational program objectives.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Background, experience, or demonstrated interest in biomedical engineering, medical device innovation, healthcare technology development, or clinical engineering applications.
  • Prior experience mentoring students, teaching, precepting, or supervising trainees in clinical or academic settings.
  • Experience participating in interdisciplinary healthcare or engineering collaboration initiatives.
  • Familiarity with clinical workflow improvement, medical device evaluation, or innovation-focused healthcare programs.
