Job description

HonorBridge is the largest Organ Procurement Organization in North Carolina. We partner with hospitals, transplant centers and other partners to coordinate the organ and tissue donation process. We are passionate about inspiring our community to register as organ and tissue donors and provide support to the families of those who give the gift of life.
Job Summary:
Due to growth, HonorBridge is recruiting a Referral Allocation Coordinator. In this role, you will facilitate organ donation in the HonorBridge service area by managing organ referrals and completing allocation for local organ donors. Responsibilities for this position include review and management of new and current organ referrals, completing allocation of all organs for transplant for local organ donors, collaborating with the AOC, activating organ staff for clinical activity as directed by the AOC, and completing OPTN required documentation.
The ideal candidate is passionate about our Mission, has an Associate's Degree with a concentration in healthcare field or related and/or possesses 2-3 years' experience in a clinical environment such as EMT, Paramedic, RN, or LPN.
This is a night shift position that requires three to four 12-hour shifts and on-call responsibilities to include weekends and holidays. This position will work primarily remotely from home. Only NC residents will be considered for the position. Reliable cell phone and Internet access is required. Periodic travel to an HonorBridge office for department and office meetings is also required.

  • Facilitates organ donation by serving as the referral and/or allocation coordinator on call.
  • Takes three to four 12-hour shifts of RAC call per week.
  • Completes initial evaluation of new organ referrals utilizing the potential donor's electronic medical record (EMR) when available.
  • Monitors current organ referrals to determine and evaluate changes in plan of care utilizing EMR review when available and communication with the hospital care team.
  • Works collaboratively with the AOC and activates staff as directed by the AOC for clinical activity.
  • Allocates all available organs deemed suitable for transplant for local organ donors.
  • Communicates information to HonorBridge staff, surgeons, transplant coordinators, and the AOC as needed.
  • Reviews and completes documentation accurately.
  • Reviews new and current active referrals and documents follow-up in HonorBridge' electronic donor chart
  • Completes DonorNet documentation as needed.
  • Initiates and manages organ offers for active donors, in accordance with Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) policies.
  • Completes UNOS required follow-up documentation (Donor Feedback) daily.
  • Completes follow-up for all organ donor cultures when Medical Records Coordinator is unavailable.
  • Maintains EMR access to all available hospitals.
  • Utilizes medical information from remote EMR access to obtain and review available medical records.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient and donor/recipient information
  • Participates in meetings as requested by the department manager.
  • Strives to establish and maintain ongoing relationships with all levels of HonorBridge staff and leadership, hospital personnel, transplant center personnel, and physicians on a continual basis.
  • Responds to administrative duties to include internal and external communication, process improvement projects and quality assurance tasks in a timely manner as defined by HonorBridge leadership.

Physical Requirements: Sitting, standing, occasional lifting up to thirty pounds, finger dexterity, hand -eye coordination, and visual acuity.
Work Environment: Full-time position working primarily remote from home with reliable cell phone and Internet access required, on-call responsibilities to include weekends, holidays. Individuals are required to have a private workspace to manage confidential information. The job duties for this primarily remote job include periodic travel to an HonorBridge office for department and office meetings.
What we are looking for:
  • Associate degree with a concentration in healthcare field or related and/or 2-3 years' experience in a clinical (or commensurate) environment such as EMT, Paramedic, RN, or LPN.
  • Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: CPTC preferred.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to manage stress and function in high-pressure situations.
  • Direct clinical knowledge in organ donor management and/or recovery, experience in form completion and documentation, ability to use computers and cellular phones, commitment to organ and tissue donation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
