What is a remote RN chart review?

A Remote RN Chart Review is a nursing role where registered nurses review and analyze patient medical records from a remote location, rather than working on-site at a hospital or clinic. These nurses assess documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with healthcare regulations. Their work helps ensure quality care, proper coding for billing, and adherence to legal standards. Remote chart reviewers often work for insurance companies, healthcare organizations, or third-party vendors, using secure digital platforms to access and evaluate patient charts.

How can I get a remote job as a chart review RN?

The qualifications to get a remote job as a chart review nurse include a nursing degree, a nursing license, and experience using medical records and coding systems. You can start out on this career path by becoming a registered nurse (RN) or a practical nurse (LPN). This process involves earning an associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing and passing the NCLEX-RN licensing exam. It’s essential to have strong communication and analytical skills, attention to detail, and a reliable computer with internet access to work from home. Earning certification from the American Association of Medical Audit Specialists or the American Academy of Professional Coders is a plus.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote RN chart review, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote RN Chart Review, you need a thorough understanding of clinical guidelines, patient care documentation, and medical coding, supported by an active RN license and experience in clinical settings. Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems, chart auditing tools, and sometimes certification in coding (like CPC or CCS) is often required. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective written communication are vital soft skills for accurately reviewing and summarizing medical records. These skills and qualifications ensure the accuracy and compliance of patient documentation, which is critical for quality assurance and regulatory standards in healthcare.

What are some common challenges faced by remote RN chart review nurses, and how can they be overcome?

Remote RN Chart Review nurses often encounter challenges such as managing large volumes of medical records, ensuring data accuracy, and maintaining effective communication with healthcare teams from a distance. Staying organized and utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems efficiently can help manage workload and prevent errors. Proactive communication through secure messaging or virtual meetings is crucial for clarifying documentation and collaborating with physicians and other staff. Additionally, ongoing training in compliance and evolving chart review standards can help nurses stay current and confident in their role.

What is the difference between Remote Rn Chart Review vs Remote LPN Chart Review?

AspectRemote Rn Chart ReviewRemote LPN Chart Review
CredentialsRegistered Nurse (RN) licenseLicensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license
Work EnvironmentHealthcare facilities, insurance companies, telehealthSimilar settings, often with more limited scope
Job ResponsibilitiesComprehensive chart review, complex case analysisBasic chart review, documentation verification

Remote Rn Chart Review and Remote LPN Chart Review both involve reviewing patient records remotely. However, RNs typically handle more complex cases requiring a broader scope of practice and higher credentials, while LPNs focus on more routine documentation tasks. Both roles are essential in healthcare documentation and insurance claims, but RNs generally have more advanced responsibilities and qualifications.

OUR MISSION

Perry Health is rethinking chronic care through a fully remote, continuous care model. We provide expert diabetes education and clinical management for Medicare patients, delivered by a comprehensive team of specialized Registered Nurses, Registered Dietitians, and Accountability Coaches.

Our model integrates high-level clinical expertise with real-time data from cellular-connected glucometers and advanced CGM management. By bridging the gap between physician visits with proactive, data-driven support, we deliver life-changing outcomes for our members.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Registered Dietitian (RD) and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) passionate about remote care delivery. In this role, you will offer diabetes education and management, medical nutrition therapy, and personalized nutritional guidance for our members. You will partner with a multidisciplinary care team to ensure members receive expert clinical attention and education to lead healthier lives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide call-based care and clinical nutrition management to patients in our Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) program.
  • Assess member health regimens and interpret blood glucose and CGM readings as they relate to nutrition.
  • Craft individualized, compassionate meal plans based on member health needs and access.
  • Support nutrition-related escalations and provide data-driven education.
  • Collaborate with the broader care team — including RNs and Accountability Coaches — to reinforce clinical goals and SMART goal progression.
  • Adhere to Perry Health policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures to ensure ongoing clinical quality and compliance.

  • Traits: Creative thinking, an eye for detail, ability to work independently, a positive attitude, and the ability to excel in a fast-paced atmosphere while collaborating with diverse groups at all levels of the organization.
  • Language: Spanish-speaking preferred.

COMPENSATION & PAYMENT TERMS

Contractors are paid on a monthly basis following Net 30 payment terms.

  • Clinical Pay: $20.00 per 20-minute clinical encounter. An encounter is defined as a successful call with a member, primarily spent in live conversation, with chart review time also counting toward this total.
  • Non-Clinical Pay: $30.00/hour flat rate for required meetings and training.

Examples:

  • Initial consultations are scheduled in 60-minute intervals. Completing one initial consultation that meets the engagement-time requirement pays $60.
  • Follow-up visits are scheduled in 30-minute intervals. Completing two follow-ups within an hour that each meet the engagement-time requirement pays a total of $40 for that hour.

OUR VALUES

Our patients are our purpose: We understand that the decisions we make have an impact on our patients' health. We are a healthcare company above all else. The choices we make are always in the best interest of our patients.

Bring your best self: The authenticity of our team drives our innovation. We show up for each other and our patients every day. Your teammates will count on you for motivation and support, and you should expect the same in return. Conversely, recognize when you are not at your best so you can seek support and take time to recharge.

Own your ideas and your results: Each member of the team contributes to the growth of Perry. Identify problems, seek solutions that maximize impact. Ownership is key; seek out support from team members, and take accountability for the results of your efforts.

Move fast, but with purpose: Consistent, rapid growth is expected. Set goals, work with purpose, assess, reassess, and pivot when necessary. Perfection should not impede progress. Ego should not prevent reevaluation. Each day will provide opportunities for learning and growth and will move us closer to our goals.

Good ideas come from anywhere: Ideas, good and bad, come from every level of the organization. Employees at all levels are empowered to share their ideas and feedback. The whole of Perry is greater than the sum of its parts. All ideas are considered, and when a decision is made we will move forward together.
