We are currently seeking a well-qualified candidate for the position of Lead Engineer - Level III, based in Endicott, NY.  The Lead Engineer will serve as the primary technical authority and dedicated customer interface for our engineering organization. The Lead Engineer will combine strong design expertise with disciplined requirements management, project planning, and risk mitigation. This role requires a strategic leader who can make real-time technical decisions and commitments when working directly with customers on design development or quality and reliability issues, while coordinating between Applications Engineers and detail design teams to drive products toward successful delivery and exceed industry standards. This position is based on-site in Endicott, NY and is not eligible for remote work. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Requirements Management & Technical Leadership: Translate customer needs into clear technical requirements and design specifications. Establish and maintain requirements traceability throughout product development. Serve as the primary technical authority with delegated decision-making authority for design decisions, trade-offs, and technical commitments.
  • Project Planning & Execution: Develop and manage comprehensive project plans including schedules, resource allocation, and deliverables. Track project progress against established baselines. Coordinate activities between Applications Engineering, detail design teams, and customers to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.
  • Risk & Action Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate technical and programmatic risks. Develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans. Establish and track corrective and preventive actions to closure. Escalate critical issues and maintain transparent communication with stakeholders.
  • Customer Interface & Technical Authority: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customer issues, concerns, and change requests. Exercise decision-making authority to resolve design development and quality/reliability issues in real time. Coordinate with Applications Engineers to understand customer requirements and constraints. Provide technical guidance, commitments, and status updates to customers throughout the development cycle.
  • Technical Sign-Off & Quality Assurance: Accountable for technical sign-off of all engineering deliverables related to the assigned customer portfolio. Ensure designs comply with industry standards and regulations. Conduct analysis and testing of critical issues. Drive continuous improvement in product performance and manufacturability.
  • Management Reporting & Portfolio Oversight: Provide regular status updates to management on Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Risk metrics associated with the customer portfolio and related products. Communicate portfolio health, key issues, and mitigation strategies. Ensure transparency on program performance and adherence to business objectives.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Foster effective communication between customer teams, Applications Engineers, detail designers, and Quality Assurance. Establish reliability requirements and qualification test protocols. Model adherence to company policies and technical procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS Degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 7 years related work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with project planning and management.
  • Experience in UL508A, UL62368, and/or high-current electrical integration.
  • Working knowledge and application of principles and techniques commonly employed in the design and manufacture interconnect products such as metal fabrication, die cast, stamped and formed, and plastic injection molded components.
  • Working knowledge of how the designed solutions may be used and help in developing the qualification tests and reliability parameters.
  • Travel required, both domestic and international, up to 50%.
