The Team You’ll Join  

You'll be joining a small global payroll team in a fast-paced environment. The Senior Payroll Analyst is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing for employees across multiple U.S. states and Canada. This role supports end-to-end payroll operations, including auditing payroll data, reviewing tax withholdings and deductions, performing high-level payroll taxation analysis, resolving complex payroll issues, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and Canadian payroll tax and employment regulations. 

How You’ll Contribute   

This payroll role at Envestnet operates in a fast-paced environment with high standards, requiring a self-starter who is committed to meeting payroll deadlines and supporting their team. The ideal candidate is hands-on, collaborative, and willing to jump in wherever needed, at all levels. The role requires someone who seeks to gain a thorough understanding of the current payroll process and underlying rationale for our established practices – someone who likes to learn and grow.

Core responsibilities include ensuring accurate multi state payroll tax withholdings, performing pre and post payroll audits, maintaining compliant tax configurations, and resolving escalated payroll and tax issues. The role also supports payroll reporting and analytics, year-end W 2/W 2C processing, system testing and troubleshooting, and cross functional collaboration with HR, Finance, Legal, and HR Tech. In addition, the position assists with internal and external audits through thorough documentation and reconciliations.

  • Validate multi state and local tax withholdings and ensure accuracy of all payroll tax calculations, earnings, benefits, and supplemental payments.
  • Conduct pre and post payroll audits, review payroll data prior to submission, and resolve payroll/tax errors to ensure accurate, compliant payroll processing.
  • Monitor federal, state, and local legislative changes and update payroll/tax system requirements accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate employee tax records (SUI rates, locality taxes, unemployment states) and ensure correct system configuration for pay codes, earnings, and deductions.
  • Address escalated employee payroll and tax questions related to withholding, residency, reciprocity, and tax forms; investigate complex tax issues and propose resolutions.
  • Deliver payroll analytics, compliance reporting, and KPIs; prepare recurring and ad hoc reports as needed.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, Legal, and HR Tech to validate nexus, ensure data accuracy, support integrations, and implement tax jurisdiction or rate changes.
  • Test payroll system updates, patches, and new features; troubleshoot system related tax issues, including calculation or mapping problems.
  • Assist with year-end W 2 and W 2C processing, including balancing, error resolution, and required adjustments.
  • Support internal and external audits with required documentation, reconciliations, and tax explanations.
  • Adherence to and application of Envestnet legal, compliance, risk, business continuity and administrative policy within the role and department(s) including the timely completion of training & awareness, affirmations and testing as requested.
  • As part of the responsibilities for this role, you will understand and readily support Envestnet's established corporate business practices, policies, internal controls and procedures designed to create value or minimize risk.

What You’ll Need to Bring  

  • A minimum of 3+ years payroll tax experience
  • Must have prior experience with multi-state taxes (Preferred States include: PA, WA, CA)
  • Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy in work
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and reporting requirements
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to work with general supervision in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent computer skills, including payroll software and Microsoft Office
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, data analysis)
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills

Our Investment in You 

This role offers a base salary range of $78,000 to $98,000 annually. The range listed represents a good-faith estimate of base salary compensation for this position and does not include incentive compensation, equity or benefits. Individual pay will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable pay transparency laws.  This role is eligible for an additional incentive component as part of the total rewards package.
