Job description

Our client is seeking a Systems Architect – Platform to define and drive the next-generation platform architecture as the organization transitions from legacy, tightly coupled systems to a modern, layered platform model. This role provides architectural leadership across product, engineering, and operations teams to ensure solutions are scalable, performant, secure, and resilient.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical depth with pragmatic decision‑making, enabling teams to move quickly while maintaining platform integrity.

No Visa Sponsorship

Location: Remote, U.S. Based

Responsibilities:

  • Mentor engineers and influence technical decision‑making across teams.
  • Establish clear system and domain boundaries across experience, orchestration, and core business systems.
  • Modernize legacy workflows by identifying coupling, risk, and migration paths that preserve business continuity.
  • Design for performance and scale using caching, asynchronous processing, partitioning, and load‑aware patterns.
  • Enable automation‑ready operations through infrastructure as code, CI/CD, automated testing, and policy‑as‑code.
  • Strengthen reliability and resilience through fault isolation, graceful degradation, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Champion API‑first and event‑driven integration with strong service contracts, versioning, and error‑handling patterns.
  • Embed security and compliance by design including identity, authorization, secrets management, encryption, and auditability.
  • Partner cross‑functionally with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to align roadmaps and architectural direction.
  • Measure architecture health using metrics such as coupling, reuse, deployment frequency, incident trends, and lead time for change.
  • Define and govern platform architecture including reference architectures, standards, principles, and architectural decision records.
  • Build AI‑ready foundations including observability, metadata, lineage, data quality, and safe augmentation patterns (e.g., retrieval, human‑in‑the‑loop, tool/function boundaries)

Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • Willingness to be hands‑on during early platform build‑out.
  • Hands‑on experience designing for performance, scale, and reliability.
  • 8+ years in software engineering, solutions architecture, or platform architecture.
  • Demonstrated experience modernizing legacy systems and decomposing complex workflows.
  • Strong background with cloud platforms, containerization, IaC, CI/CD, and automated testing.
  • Excellent communication and influence skills across technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Strong observability mindset (logging, metrics, tracing) and ability to translate operational needs into architecture.
  • Deep understanding of layered architecture, domain boundaries, distributed systems, and integration patterns.
  • Experience with ERP‑adjacent or core business system integrations (batch, real‑time, master data considerations)

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Platform governance: reference architectures, standards, ADRs, guardrails.
  • Data architecture and governance (catalog, lineage, quality, MDM) for analytics and AI use cases.
  • Event streaming and messaging platforms (Kafka‑like patterns), schema governance, async orchestration.
  • Designing systems for safe AI augmentation (RAG, evaluation, monitoring, human‑in‑the‑loop workflows)
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
