Job description

This is a remote position.

About the Firm

Our client is a $350M registered investment advisory (RIA) firm based in Minnesota, built around a simple but powerful philosophy: clients are owned by the firm, not any single partner. The team operates with genuine cohesion, high accountability, and a shared commitment to exceptional client service. Everyone has a voice. Heads are down getting the work done, but there's real camaraderie and a lightheartedness that makes the culture stand out. This is a team that works hard and genuinely enjoys working together — the kind of culture that's easy to talk about but rare to actually find.

Their client base centers on equity compensation holders, founders, self-employed business owners, and high-net-worth individuals, including retirees navigating sudden wealth events and inheritance situations. The firm has built strong tax strategy and planning capabilities into its advisory practice and is now ready to bring tax compliance fully in-house as a natural extension of that offering.

About the Role

Our client is looking for a competent, dependable tax professional to own the compliance function and serve as a reliable tax resource across the client base. The firm has the client relationships and planning infrastructure in place — the right person comes in, owns the compliance function, supports the advisory team where needed, and grows into the role over time. Flexible hours are on the table for the right candidate, making this a strong fit for someone who wants quality work without the grind of a traditional public accounting schedule. If you're tired of the hours, the pressure, and the churn of a large firm environment, this is a different kind of opportunity.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review individual and business tax returns, with authority to sign off on work product

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for tax compliance matters, including IRS and state notice responses

  • Collaborate with financial advisors to support an integrated client experience across planning and tax

  • Manage relationships with outside vendors for complex returns, ensuring coordination and quality control

  • Support advisors with tax planning inputs on equity compensation, retirement income, and business owner situations as needed

  • Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously with accuracy and attention to detail

Requirements

  • CPA or EA required

  • 3+ years of tax experience in a public accounting or RIA setting

  • Demonstrated strength in individual and business owner tax compliance

  • Comfortable managing client relationships and serving as a reliable tax resource

  • Experience with equity compensation taxation a plus (RSUs, PSUs, stock options)

  • Strong communicator who can translate tax concepts clearly for clients

  • Able to work independently in a remote environment while staying connected to a collaborative team

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience

  • Flexible scheduling considered for the right candidate

  • Fully remote
