Job Title:        Benefit Administration Analyst

Department: Benefit Administration

Reports to:     Benefit Administration Manager

TMRS Overview:

The Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) is a statewide public retirement system established in 1948 to provide retirement, disability and death benefits to employees and retirees of participating Texas cities. TMRS manages more than $36 billion in assets for more than 900 Texas cities. TMRS offers competitive compensation with medical, dental and vision insurance provided at no cost, flexible scheduling, twelve paid holidays, modern and centrally located office space, a generous leave program, potential for remote work opportunities, and membership in TMRS’ pension plan.

Job Summary:

Benefit administration is a core TMRS function responsible for processing all member applications and  providing counseling and other services to TMRS’ more than 270,000 Members, retirees, and beneficiaries. The Benefit Administration Analyst reports to the Benefit Administration Managers and performs daily processing of member transactions, including retirements, refunds, death benefits, and legal related updates. This role ensures accuracy and compliance with TMRS policies and statutes while providing timely and reliable service to both internal and external customers.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Process member transactions including retirements, refunds death benefits and account updates.
  • Review applications and supporting documentation for completeness, accuracy and eligibility.
  • Calculate benefits, contributions, and adjustments in accordance with TMRS rules.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies or issues related to member accounts.
  • Review and apply legal documents such as beneficiary updates, POAs, and court orders.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation within TMRS systems.
  • Communicate with internal teams and the Member Service Center to address member inquiries and processing needs.
  • Participate in quality checks, audits, and compliance activities.
  • Support training efforts and continuous process improvement initiatives,

Education, Experience & Skills:

  • High school diploma
  • 4 years of related experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • A passion for public and customer service is a must.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College degree
  • Experience in public pension, retirement, or financial services administration.
  • Customer service experience, preferably in benefit administration.

Physical Requirements:

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10lbs of force. Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
