Job description

At Koalafi, we believe in a world where no one has to put an important purchase on hold. That's why we're making it easier for more people to pay for big purchases over time.
Retailers across the country rely on us to offer flexible lease-to-own financing to their non-prime consumers, while increasing sales and strengthening customer loyalty. Their 2M+ customers love us because we provide a flexible way for them to make payments and give them an opportunity to improve their credit. Our 200+ Koalafi teammates enjoy inspiring and challenging work that accelerates their careers.
Interested in learning more about how we're transforming the financing experience and joining our team?
What You'll Do
We are undertaking a modernization of our merchant portal used by retailers to run their Koalafi partnership every day. This is a high-visibility initiative with a direct impact on how merchants experience our brand and tools.
Your primary responsibility will be to lead the evolution of our merchant portal, a web-based platform to manage applications, track customer activity, access reports, and grow their Koalafi partnership. You'll work with PMs and developers to research, prioritize, ideate, test, deliver, and track the success of designs shipped across the portal. Reporting to the Director of Product Design within a small and growing design team, you'll have significant ownership and visibility. As a designer on a small team, you should also be able to flex into different projects and platforms across the company where needed.
  • Lead the design efforts of our merchant portal, shaping how retailers manage applications, view customer activity, access reports, and discover marketing opportunities
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, developers, and leadership to research, ideate, design, test, and deliver solutions aligned with user needs and business goals
  • Track the success of shipped designs through product data and user feedback, iterating to improve experiences
  • Contribute to and evolve the Koalafi Design System in Figma, ensuring consistency and quality across every surface of the portal
  • Work with tools like Slack, Confluence, and Jira to stay in sync with cross-functional teams

About You
  • 5+ years of experience in a UX/UI/product design role, working closely with product managers and developers throughout the design process
  • Proven experience designing and shipping complex web applications or B2B portals, with a strong grasp of responsive design principles and web interaction patterns
  • Expert-level Figma skills, including components, auto-layout, grids, slots, variables, and prototyping, plus fluency with Figma's latest AI-powered features and a habit of staying current as tools evolves
  • Experienced in running end-to-end design research and design thinking exercises, including user interviews, synthesis, and workshops, and turning those insights into clear design decisions
  • Comfortable juggling multiple projects simultaneously within fast-paced development teams, balancing speed with craft and keeping work organized without dropping the ball
  • Deep empathy for users, with the ability to conduct interviews, analyze feedback, and use product data to prioritize the right problems
  • Ability (and eagerness) to present findings, proposals, and outcomes to leaders across the organization
  • Experience contributing to or owning a shared design system, with a meticulous eye for detail, making sure spacing, hierarchy, and consistency are airtight so engineers don't have to guess
  • Experience in the fintech industry or working with financial products

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in both B2B and B2C (or in B2B2C)
  • Familiarity with accessibility and inclusive design principles
  • Experience integrating AI tools into your design workflow, whether through Figma's AI features, third-party plugins, or other tools that speed up research, ideation, or production
