What is the difference between Remote Retail Display Designer vs Remote Visual Merchandiser?

AspectRemote Retail Display DesignerRemote Visual Merchandiser
CredentialsDesign degree or related certificationDesign or retail background, often with visual merchandising courses
Work EnvironmentDesign studios, client sites, remote collaborationRetail stores, showrooms, remote planning
Industry UsageRetail brands, display manufacturers, marketing agenciesRetail chains, department stores, boutiques

Remote Retail Display Designers focus on creating visual concepts for product displays, often working remotely with clients and manufacturers. Visual Merchandisers implement and arrange displays in retail spaces, sometimes remotely but often on-site. Both roles require design skills and industry knowledge, but their primary focus differs: design creation versus display execution.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Retail Display Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Retail Display Designer, you need expertise in visual merchandising, spatial design, and a relevant degree in design or a related field. Proficiency with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, and CAD systems is typically required. Strong communication, creativity, and time management skills help you effectively collaborate with clients and team members remotely. These abilities ensure engaging, on-brand retail environments that drive customer engagement and sales, even when working from a distance.

How do Remote Retail Display Designers typically collaborate with in-store teams to ensure effective implementation of their designs?

Remote Retail Display Designers often work closely with in-store teams through virtual meetings, detailed design briefs, and digital mock-ups. They rely on clear communication tools and project management platforms to share concepts and receive feedback. Regular check-ins and photo updates from store staff help designers ensure their vision is executed accurately. This collaborative approach helps bridge the distance and ensures that displays are both visually appealing and practical for the specific retail environment.

What does a Remote Retail Display Designer do?

A Remote Retail Display Designer creates visual displays and layouts for retail stores while working from a remote location. They use design software to plan how products are presented in-store, focusing on maximizing visual appeal and driving sales. Their responsibilities often include collaborating with store managers, marketing teams, and vendors to ensure cohesive brand representation. They also provide detailed instructions and digital mockups for on-site teams to install displays correctly.

  • Industry experience that supports the ability to speak the advisorโ€™s language and understand the competitive landscape, product positioning, and key product details.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a strong understanding of DBS, our advisors, and our products, services, and approach, while building and sustaining strong relationships with internal and external clients, vendors, and industry organizations to further expand DBSโ€™s presence and influence within the industry.

Education and/or Experience:
