What are remote restaurant bookkeepers?

Remote restaurant bookkeepers are financial professionals who manage and maintain the financial records of restaurants from a remote location, rather than working on-site. Their responsibilities typically include tracking expenses and income, reconciling bank statements, managing payroll, and preparing financial reports specific to the restaurant industry. By working remotely, they utilize accounting software and cloud-based tools to securely access and update restaurant financial data. This arrangement allows restaurants to benefit from specialized bookkeeping expertise without needing to hire in-house staff. Remote bookkeepers help ensure accuracy, compliance, and financial health for restaurant businesses.

What are some unique challenges that remote restaurant bookkeepers face, and how can they overcome them?

Remote restaurant bookkeepers often encounter challenges such as managing time zone differences, accessing real-time sales and inventory data, and maintaining clear communication with on-site staff. To overcome these, it's essential to establish regular check-ins with management, use cloud-based accounting software that syncs with point-of-sale systems, and create clear documentation for financial procedures. Staying proactive with communication and leveraging digital tools can help ensure accuracy and foster strong working relationships despite the distance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Restaurant Bookkeeper, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Restaurant Bookkeeper, you need expertise in accounting principles, attention to detail, and familiarity with restaurant-specific financial processes, often supported by a degree in accounting or finance. Proficiency in accounting software like QuickBooks, POS systems integration, and experience with payroll and inventory management tools are typically required. Strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and clear communication are essential soft skills for managing remote workflows and collaborating with restaurant staff. These skills and qualities ensure accurate financial records, regulatory compliance, and efficient financial operations for restaurant businesses.

PITCH

Prix Fixe Accounting is an industry leading accounting firm in the hospitality space, providing accounting, bookkeeping, and advisory services to some of the best independent restaurants in the country. Our vision is to manage all back office functions of a restaurant. We started with CAS and now we’re expanding with tax.

We’re looking for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit to head up this new service line, a blank slate for you to design the tax practice of your dreams. A tax practice that is state of the art, client focused, and seamless. A tax practice where you can focus on preparing taxes and saving clients money, not cleaning up books and sorting through receipts and invoices like it’s 1998.

The ideal candidate is someone that’s got a lot of love for the hospitality industry, and has a background, in some form or fashion, in the biz, whether that is Hotels, Restaurants or Retail Food & Beverage.

ABOUT PRIX FIXE ACCOUNTING

We’re an accounting & advisory company that’s passionate about helping restaurants, hotels & food-based retail businesses thrive. We deliver insightful guidance and financial clarity, freeing business owners to focus on what they’re most passionate about: creating unforgettable guest experiences.

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Head of Tax at Prix Fixe Accounting is responsible for managing and facilitating the accurate preparation and filing of our client’s state and federal tax forms. The ideal candidate is a team player with an entrepreneurial spirit, who creates and implements tax plans and works with the leadership teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and potential areas of risk. They will monitor current and impending changes to tax regulation and educate the accounting team on these changes through revisions to standard operating procedures.

At Prix Fixe Accounting, we believe that people are everything, and our Head of Tax plays one of the most pivotal roles; helping our clients understand their unique tax scenarios, and managing their tax liabilities.

The key component of a successful career with Prix Fixe Accounting is integrity and a genuine understanding of the hospitality industry; this is essential to the job in order to develop long-term client relationships that are built on trust and our shared interest in their success.

All members of the Prix Fixe Accounting team focus on building and maintaining long-term relationships with our clients by providing the right mix of professional, yet approachable demeanor. We believe that the relationship frees our clients up to focus on the parts of their business that brings them joy.

An unwritten language and unbreakable bonds are found in a restaurant’s kitchen; this mutual respect and appreciation is a hallmark of “the industry.” For this reason, we look for all of the members of our team to have experience working in the restaurant industry.
