Remote Research Math information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Research Mathematician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Research Mathematician, you need a strong background in advanced mathematics, analytical problem-solving, and typically a graduate degree in mathematics or a related field. Proficiency with mathematical software such as MATLAB, Mathematica, or Python, and familiarity with collaborative tools for remote teamwork are often required. Strong written communication, self-motivation, and critical thinking are crucial soft skills for effectively conducting and presenting independent research. These skills enable rigorous analysis, clear dissemination of findings, and successful collaboration in a remote research environment.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in remote research math roles, and how can they be addressed?

Remote research math professionals often encounter challenges such as collaborating effectively with team members across different time zones and maintaining clear communication on complex problems. To overcome these, it's essential to use collaborative digital tools, schedule regular video meetings, and document progress thoroughly. Additionally, setting structured working hours and frequent check-ins can help maintain momentum and foster a sense of teamwork, even when working independently. Proactively seeking feedback and sharing draft work also ensures alignment and productivity.

What are Remote Research Math jobs?

Remote Research Math jobs involve conducting mathematical research, analysis, and problem-solving from a location outside of a traditional office or lab, typically via the internet. Professionals in these roles may work for universities, research institutions, or private companies, collaborating with teams and publishing findings remotely. Tasks can include developing mathematical models, analyzing data, and applying advanced math to solve real-world problems. These jobs require strong mathematical skills, self-motivation, and the ability to communicate findings effectively in a virtual environment.

What is the difference between Remote Research Math vs Remote Data Analyst?

AspectRemote Research MathRemote Data Analyst
Required CredentialsAdvanced degrees in mathematics or related fieldsBachelor's or master's in statistics, data science, or related fields
Work EnvironmentResearch-focused, often academic or R&D settingsBusiness or tech industry, analyzing datasets
Employer & Industry UsageUniversities, research institutions, tech companiesCorporations, consulting firms, tech companies
Common Search & Comparison IntentUnderstanding research roles in mathAnalyzing data in business contexts

Remote Research Math involves advanced mathematical research, often in academic or R&D settings, requiring higher-level degrees. Remote Data Analysts focus on interpreting data to inform business decisions, typically with a bachelor's or master's degree. While both roles analyze data, Research Math emphasizes theoretical and complex problem-solving, whereas Data Analysts focus on practical data interpretation for organizations.

Job description

Edison Scientific focuses on building and commercializing AI agents for science, and shares FutureHouse's mission to build an AI Scientist- scaling autonomous research, productizing it, and applying it to critical challenges such as drug development. Role As a Forward Deployed Software Engineer , you will work directly with customers to quickly understand their greatest problems and design and implement solutions to use data against them. Our customers rely on Edison's platforms for some of their most critical research and projects.

As an FDSE, you'll apply your problem solving ability, creativity, and technical skills to help organizations use their data to drive a real impact in the world. You'll have the opportunity to gain rare insight into and contribute to some of the most important scientific research. Responsibilities Work directly with scientists, researchers, and external partners to deeply understand their workflows and translate real-world needs into high-impact technical solutions.

Build, deploy, and iterate on production‐ready software in fast cycles, often owning features end‐to‐end - from architecture to implementation to on‐the‐ground rollout. Integrate AI‐driven tools into customer environments, ensuring reliability, usability, and measurable scientific or operational impact. Serve as the technical point‐of‐contact during deployments, troubleshooting issues in real time and collaborating closely with product, engineering, and research teams.

Capture field insights (pain points, user behavior, unmet needs) and feed them back into product roadmaps to help shape future capabilities and accelerate adoption. Qualifications 2+ years of professional software engineering experience. Strong engineering foundation, ideally in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Data Science, or a related technical field.

Experience building and shipping production‐grade software in fast‐paced or ambiguous environments. Ability to work directly with end users — gathering requirements, translating feedback into technical solutions, and iterating quickly. Strong problem‐solving skills and comfort navigating complex systems, debugging issues in real time, and owning features end‐to‐end.

Excellent communication skills; able to interface with engineers, scientists, and external partners with clarity and empathy. Willingness to operate hands‐on, learn new domains quickly, and adapt to rapidly evolving priorities. Experience working with AI/ML systems, APIs, distributed systems, or scientific/technical workflows.

Location + Compensation This role can be remote and based anywhere outside of California, as you will spend the majority of your time deployed at customer sites across the U.S. Location: San Francisco Bay Area (preferred). Remote U.S.

locations will be considered depending on experience and customer deployment needs. At Edison Scientific, we know that titles can cover a range of experience levels. Actual base pay will depend on factors such as skills, experience, and scope of responsibility.

Compensation ranges may evolve as we continue to grow. In addition to base pay, team members may be eligible for equity, benefits, and other perks. Compensation: $165,000+ #J-18808-Ljbffr
