The Senior Microgrid Controls Engineer is a key technical contributor on Vertiv's Microgrid Systems Engineering team. This position can be remote out of the US. This individual will be responsible for the architecture, development, and implementation of advanced control systems for microgrids and large scale electric power plants supporting critical infrastructure.
This role leads the development of plant-level and subsystem control strategies using PLC-based platforms (including codesys) and integrates BESS, renewable generation, conventional generation, and utility interconnections into reliable, grid-compliant, and resilient systems. The engineer serves as a technical authority across controls logic, control philosophy, system behavior, and commissioning support, collaborating closely with cross functional engineering partners and customer teams.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as technical subject matter expert of BESS and microgrid solutions to internal product development teams, sales teams, services teams, and external clients.
  • Assist in pre-sales activities to explain the benefits of BESS and microgrid solutions to potential customers and help create budgetary quotations for these solutions.
  • Design BESS and microgrid solutions for won bids and help coordinate the procurement of the solution equipment.
  • Acquire necessary firmware and software settings for sold solutions and ensure all equipment has its software properly adjusted during installation.
  • Guide system installation, setup, commissioning, operation, and maintenance as necessary.
  • Guide internal product development initiatives and research programs to introduce new solutions to the market.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or any other related field
  • 8-10 years of experience in microgrid, power, or industrial controls engineering.
  • Deep understanding and hands on experience with PLC programming (codesys preferred), SCADA systems and HMI development, and industrial networking and protocols.
  • Strong understanding of power system behavior and grid interconnection concepts.
  • Ability to author clear and structured control diagrams and control philosophies for power control systems.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret plans, specifications, control drawings, service bulletins, equipment specifications, etc.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers
  • Strong analytical and logical problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail; excellent organization skills

Preferred:
  • Previous experience with distributed energy resources such as BESS, solar arrays, diesel generators, natural gas generators, or any other related technologies.
    • Experience with grid forming inverters, microgrid controllers and power plant controllers.
    • Prior work interfacing with utilities or ISOs.
