Job description

Estate Planning Attorney (Full-Time, Part-Time, or Flexible Schedule)

Location: Rockville, Maryland (serving clients throughout Maryland, Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia)
Firm: Altman & Associates - www.altmanassociates.net

About Altman & Associates

Altman & Associates is a respected and established law firm dedicated exclusively to estate planning, trust administration, wealth preservation, and succession planning. For decades, we have helped individuals, families, business owners, and fiduciaries navigate complex estate, trust, tax, and legacy planning matters with confidence and clarity.

Our practice combines sophisticated legal counsel with practical financial and tax planning insight to deliver customized solutions tailored to each client's unique goals and circumstances.

Position Overview

Altman & Associates is seeking an experienced Estate Planning Attorney to join our growing practice. We welcome applications from attorneys seeking full-time, part-time, or flexible schedule arrangements, and we are willing to structure the position to accommodate the right candidate. We need the candidate to ideally commit to be in the office at least 3 days a week.

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience designing and implementing sophisticated estate plans for individuals, families, and closely held business owners, along with a strong understanding of estate, gift, generation-skipping transfer, and income tax planning.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a seasoned attorney who enjoys meaningful client relationships, sophisticated planning work, and serving as a trusted advisor to clients and their families.

Attorneys seeking reduced-hour schedules, phased-retirement opportunities, hybrid arrangements, or flexible part-time roles are encouraged to apply. We value experience, sound judgment, and exceptional client service, and recognize that highly qualified attorneys may be seeking alternatives to a traditional full-time law firm schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Advise clients regarding comprehensive estate planning strategies.
  • Draft and review wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, advance medical directives, and related planning documents.
  • Develop and implement advanced wealth transfer strategies, including estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax planning.
  • Counsel business owners on succession planning and business continuity matters.
  • Assist clients with trust and estate administration issues.
  • Collaborate with financial advisors, accountants, trustees, and other professional advisors.
  • Conduct client consultations and guide clients through the planning and implementation process.
  • Participate in educational seminars, client presentations, and business development initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar membership in good standing in Maryland, Virginia, Florida or the District of Columbia
  • Minimum of 5 years of estate planning experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise drafting sophisticated estate planning documents.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and client relationship skills.
  • Ability to independently manage client matters from consultation through implementation.

Preferred

  • LL.M. in Taxation or significant tax planning experience.
  • Strong knowledge of estate, gift, and fiduciary income taxation.
  • Experience advising high-net-worth individuals, multigenerational families, and closely held business owners.
  • Admission in multiple jurisdictions (Maryland, DC, FL, and/or Virginia).

What We Offer

  • An established and highly respected estate planning practice.
  • Sophisticated and rewarding client work.
  • Collegial, collaborative, and professional work environment.
  • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience.
  • Performance-based and origination bonus opportunities.
  • Health insurance.
  • 401(k) plan.
  • Paid time off.
  • Paid parking.
  • Professional development and leadership opportunities.
  • Flexible scheduling and work arrangements.

Compensation

Compensation will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and any portable business. We welcome applications from attorneys seeking either a long-term full-time position or a flexible part-time role within a premier estate planning practice.

For candidates with an established referral network or portable practice, compensation structures may be tailored to reflect experience, business development contributions, and long-term growth potential within the firm.

How to Apply

Qualified candidates should submit a résumé, cover letter, and a brief description of their estate planning experience and areas of expertise.

Altman & Associates is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from qualified candidates committed to excellence, professionalism, and exceptional client service.
