Communication with colleagues is usually maintained through email, instant messaging, and scheduled video calls. This structure allows for flexible work hours but also requires proactive organization and consistent attention to detail to ensure accuracy and fairness in evaluations.

Familiarity with digital document management systems and proficiency in using collaboration and feedback platforms (such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Teams, or learning management systems) are commonly required. Strong time management, self-motivation, and the ability to provide clear, constructive feedback help set top performers apart. These abilities ensure that Remote Readers can efficiently evaluate materials, meet deadlines, and contribute positively to a distributed team or client base.

Title: Equipment / Geologic Technician
Field Work Schedule: 10 - 12 hours a day, 14 days on/14 days off rotations
Location: Mobilize out of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area, but field work will extend through the western United States.
Manager: Field Operations Manager

Mission - Why we exist and why we need you
Geothermal energy is a massive renewable energy resource sitting below our feet. There is 2,300 times more energy in geothermal heat in the ground than in oil, gas, coal, and methane combined. However, historically it's been hard to find and expensive to develop. At Zanskar, we're using better technology to find and develop new geothermal resources in order to make geothermal power the most affordable form of widely-deployable, 24/7, carbon-free generation on the planet.
Field data is Zanskar's life blood; we rely on accurate and precise field measurements that are essential to guiding our exploration and development efforts. Our 2 or 3-person field teams, composed of geologic and equipment technicians, collaborate with our geologists and geoscientists on geothermal exploration projects. These teams employ a variety of geologic, geochemical, and drilling methods.
The primary role of the Geology Technician is to ensure all scientific field methods and sampling are being performed to the highest standards. In addition to scientific responsibilities, the technician will support daily field operations, including the operation and maintenance of vehicles, UTVs, and light mechanical equipment and tools.
Outcomes - Problems you'll solve
Success in this role within six months means you can safely, efficiently, and independently mobilize to remote field locations and collect high-quality data that supports the identification and refinement of geothermal anomaly targets.
Success in this role also requires the ability to work effectively in challenging and variable environments, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and other demanding conditions. Our field technicians take pride in their ability to perform their work safely and reliably in any climate.
Competencies - What we're looking for
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Valid driver's license with no major infractions in the past three years. CDL is preferred, and will grant an automatic pay increase.
  • Strong commitment to personal and team safety.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and professionalism.
  • High degree of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in small, remote teams.
  • Willingness to commute long distances (300+ miles) and participate in extended field rotations (14 days).
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions at a fast operational tempo.
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology or a related field from an accredited institution preferred.
  • Physically able to perform strenuous tasks, including bending, kneeling, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English to ensure safe and effective performance of duties.
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude, with experience operating and maintaining field vehicles and equipment. (Large diesel trucks, UTVs, and trailers).
  • Skilled in GPS use and navigation in remote environments.
  • Proficient with computers, especially within the Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Directories).
  • Maintains clean, orderly work practices and good housekeeping standards.
Why This Role Matters
This position offers a direct opportunity to contribute to the discovery of new clean energy resources, reduce global carbon emissions, and grow with a fast-moving startup at the forefront of geothermal exploration
Equal Opportunity Employer
Zanskar is an equal-opportunity employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local fair employment practice laws.
