Stand Together is a philanthropic community that helps America’s boldest changemakers tackle the root causes of our country’s biggest problems, from education to the economy, broken communities, and toxic division, among dozens of other pressing issues. We provide our partners with access to resources including funding, thought leadership, a network of peers, and a playbook for applying proven principles to transform lives and society.

As a Project Manager on the Operational Excellence team, you will be responsible for leading projects from idea to delivery and building lasting relationships with key stakeholders.

The Operational Excellence team within Stand Together partners with internal leaders to maximize the value of existing operations and operationalize new capabilities.  Through the projects we support, we help identify and organize the people, processes, and technology needed to achieve operational goals. We apply expertise in business analysis, project management, change management, and related disciplines to convert ambiguity to action, speed decision making, improve adoption and deliver superior results.  Our primary internal customers are Infrastructure Operations, Knowledge Systems, Finance and HR, but we also support complex, cross-functional programs within Stand Together.

We focus on improving business and systems operations that enable our customers to focus on the core mission of Stand Together, helping people improve their lives and building a movement of millions to advance a free and open society—a mission that matters!

This role is based in Arlington, VA.

How You Will Contribute
  • Build trusted relationships with project leaders and sponsors; gain a deep understanding of their goals and how they support Stand Together’s vision.  Help them translate ideas into viable action plans

  • Identify and organize the people, processes, and technology needed to optimize operations and operationalize new capabilities, applying good economic thinking to develop efficient solutions

  • Lead projects end to end — defining scope, setting success metrics, identifying resources, and establishing timelines while driving accountability across teams and stakeholders

  • Influence and align cross-functional teams and stakeholders without direct authority, building credibility through expertise, relationships, and clear communication

  • Drive accountability amongst team members and stakeholders

  • Maintain transparent communication channels with stakeholders

What You Will Bring
  • 5+ years of experience in program or project management, with a strong track record of leading project teams of 10-20 people (both local and remote within the U.S.), across 5-7 departments
  • Solid track record of successfully leading multiple complex projects simultaneously under tight deadlines
  • Detail-oriented but able to see the bigger picture and drive strategic outcomes
  • Strategic thinking and understanding the why of the project in addition to the what
  • Demonstrated ability to manage senior-level stakeholders and navigate complex organizational structures
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and adaptability in fast-paced, dynamic settings
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships across the organization
  • Experience with a variety of project management methods and tools, including waterfall and agile methods like Scrum and Kan Ban to support efficient project delivery
  • Enthusiasm to contribute to Stand Together's vision and principled approach to solving problems, and a commitment to stewarding our culture, which champions values including transformation and innovation, entrepreneurialism, humility, and respect.
Stand Out Candidates Will Bring

Our ideal candidate is someone who has the interest and ability to apply a variety of skills that help leaders and teams achieve results.

  • Comfortable and skilled at leading without authority.  Especially leading teams through the early “discovery” phase of projects when ambiguity is high and guiding them to viable action plans

  • Experience with business analysis, business systems analysis, change management, data analysis and/or information technology

  • Experience facilitating workshops to develop the project vision, charter, work breakdown structure and/or stakeholder analysis

What We Offer
  • Competitive benefits: Enjoy a 6% 401(k) match with immediate vesting, flexible time off, comprehensive health and dental plans, plus wellness and mental health support through Peloton and Talkspace.

  • A meaningful career: Join a passionate community of over 1,300 employees dedicated to improving lives and driving innovative solutions to complex social challenges.

  • Commitment to growth: Thrive in a non-hierarchical environment that empowers employees to discover, develop and apply their unique talents.

  • Competitive compensation: Our approach rewards the value you create through competitive salaries and bonus opportunities, allowing you to share in the success you help drive.

Our Values: Working for an organization within the Stand Together philanthropic community is different from many other places. The culture is deeply rooted in Principle Based Management® (PBM®), a framework guided by the principles that drive human progress, such as dignity, openness, and bottom-up empowerment. PBM® empowers employees to be entrepreneurial, to innovate, and to continually drive transformation.

We believe diversity fuels creativity, broadens knowledge, and helps drive success.  That is why we’re proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer and strive to treat all employees and applicants with honesty, dignity, and respect.
