The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Low Voltage Estimator to join our growing team. This role is critical in supporting our sales, engineering, and operations teams by developing accurate and comprehensive estimates for low voltage construction projects. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of all low voltage systems, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage estimating software and databases effectively.

This role offers the opportunity to work on large-scale, complex projects in the Pacific Northwest. We specialize in a variety of industries, including commercial, data centers, life sciences, technology, and industrial construction.

You'll be part of a highly skilled team that values precision, collaboration, and technical expertise on projects that range from $50K to $3M+. Success in this position means demonstrating the ability navigate the details, think critically, and contribute to delivering accurate and competitive estimates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop project cost estimates based on schematic and/or detailed designs.

  • Perform complete and detailed takeoffs in estimating software.

  • Maintain and operate all aspects of the estimating software, including takeoff applications and material/labor databases.

  • Review subcontractor and vendor quotes and compile job-specific clarifications and exclusions.

  • Develop initial budgets and estimates with or without engineering drawings or specifications.

  • Maintain current and historical construction costs and bid result databases.

  • Collaborate with engineering, sales, and business development teams to influence design and identify project risks.

  • Assist in the development of RFPs for subcontractors and vendors.

  • Participate in discussions and meetings with subcontractors, vendors, architects, and internal stakeholders.

  • Manage and lead a team of estimators.

  • Coach and mentor junior estimators and delegate responsibilities effectively.

  • Maintain the teams bid log and all correspondence with customers.

  • Communicate project details clearly across teams and ensure alignment with project goals.

What we would like to see from you:

  • RCDD certification preferred.

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in estimating low voltage construction projects.

  • Proficiency in McCormick or AccuBid estimating software and database management.

  • Strong knowledge in all low voltage systems.

  • Experience with design-build and design-assist projects.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Outlook; Bluebeam experience preferred.

  • Familiarity with Revit and AutoCAD is a plus.

  • Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Ability to attend bid walks for new opportunities and current projects.

The pay range for this position is $75,870 - $116,010 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
