Remote Ran Engineer information

What are some common challenges Remote RAN Engineers face when troubleshooting network issues from a distance?

Remote RAN Engineers often encounter challenges such as limited physical access to on-site equipment, relying heavily on remote diagnostic tools and clear communication with local technicians. Effective troubleshooting requires strong analytical skills and familiarity with remote monitoring platforms, as well as the ability to interpret alarms and logs without physical context. Building good relationships with on-site teams and maintaining detailed documentation can help overcome these hurdles and ensure efficient problem resolution.

What is a Remote RAN Engineer?

A Remote RAN Engineer is a telecommunications professional who manages, optimizes, and troubleshoots Radio Access Network (RAN) equipment and infrastructure from a remote location. They are responsible for ensuring reliable wireless connectivity, performing network upgrades, and resolving technical issues without being physically present at the network site. This role typically involves working with various network technologies, monitoring system performance, and collaborating with on-site teams to maintain optimal network operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote RAN Engineer?

To thrive as a Remote RAN Engineer, you need a strong understanding of wireless communication principles, cellular network architecture, and a relevant degree in telecommunications or engineering. Familiarity with network management tools, RAN optimization software, and certifications such as CCNA or vendor-specific credentials (e.g., Nokia, Ericsson) are typically required. Excellent problem-solving, analytical thinking, and effective remote communication skills set top performers apart. These competencies are crucial for ensuring optimal network performance, prompt issue resolution, and seamless collaboration across geographically dispersed teams.

What is the difference between Remote Ran Engineer vs Radio Network Engineer?

AspectRemote Ran EngineerRadio Network Engineer
CredentialsTelecom certifications, LTE/5G knowledgeTelecom certifications, RF engineering background
Work EnvironmentRemote, field, or office-basedFieldwork, office, or remote depending on project
Industry UsageTelecom providers, network vendorsTelecom providers, network vendors
Common Search IntentRemote network setup, optimization, troubleshootingNetwork design, RF planning, site surveys

Remote Ran Engineers focus on configuring, optimizing, and troubleshooting RAN components remotely, often working with LTE and 5G networks. Radio Network Engineers typically handle RF planning, site surveys, and physical network deployment, often in the field. While both roles require telecom certifications and RF knowledge, Remote Ran Engineers are more likely to work remotely on network performance, whereas Radio Network Engineers are more involved in physical network setup and RF design.

Job description

Senior Software Engineer (Remote)

arrivia Remote (US) Full-time

About arrivia

arrivia specializes in making brands better through the power of travel. The company is a merger of three powerhouse brands, ICE, SOR Technology, and WMPH Vacations, with offices on both coasts of the US and around the world. arrivia is focused on building a customer-first culture, fueled by the best travel experiences for members at every point in their journey. Core values: Stay Curious, Keep it Real, Own it, Win Together.

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you are a product-minded, customer-focused, full-stack engineer who designs, builds, and operates the software that powers arrivia's travel platform. You take ownership of significant features and services end to end, from design through production, and you set a high bar for engineering quality on the teams you work with.

You have built real systems that run in production, and you know what it takes to keep them scalable, reliable, secure, and fast under real-world load. You make sound architectural decisions, weigh trade-offs across performance, reliability, security, cost, and speed to market, and partner with product and engineering peers to ship work that matters. You bring strong judgment to your craft, using modern tools including AI coding agents to move faster without compromising quality, security, or maintainability.

This role is remote within the United States. arrivia is currently able to hire in the following states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future.

What You'll Do
  • Design, build, test, and operate features and services across the stack, owning them from design through production and ongoing support
  • Build scalable, reliable systems with the observability, failover, and operational practices needed to run them in production at scale
  • Design and tune low-latency, high-performance services to meet latency and throughput targets under real-world load
  • Apply secure engineering practices throughout the lifecycle, safeguarding the privacy and trust of members' sensitive data
  • Make sound architectural and technology decisions for your areas of ownership
  • Use AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) to increase velocity while holding the line on code quality and security
  • Contribute to platform modernization, migrating legacy systems toward scalable, cloud-native services
  • Establish and uphold engineering quality standards, SLOs, and operational excellence for the systems you own
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to translate requirements into well-architected solutions
  • Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and on-call rotations, and help raise the technical bar
  • Mentor and support less-experienced engineers
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 5 to 8 years of full-stack development building web applications and services
  • Demonstrated experience shipping a consumer or enterprise application that ran in production and served real users
  • Experience at a mature engineering organization with established development, testing, code review, release, and operational practices
  • A track record of building scalable, reliable systems, with hands-on experience designing and operating low-latency, high-performance systems
  • Proficiency in one or more of TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, or C#/.NET
  • Experience with a modern frontend framework: React, Next.js, Vue, or Angular
  • Solid experience with RESTful API design, distributed systems, and microservices
  • Experience building and deploying cloud-native solutions on AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Proficiency using AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) in professional workflows, with the judgment to know where and how to apply them
  • Experience with real-time streaming and distributed messaging platforms (Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar)
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipeline design
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated salary range for this role is $137,000-$257,000 annually, based on Provn's market benchmarking. Benefits include access to arrivia's private travel marketplace with deeply discounted rates on cruises, resorts, and hotels, robust medical, dental, and vision insurance, and 401(k) with company matching, inside a remote-friendly culture that values winning together across US and international time zones.

How to Apply

To apply for this role, you must create an account on provn.co and submit all required application artifacts. Resume only applications may be considered, but candidates who complete a full application are reviewed with priority.

How hiring works here: Referrals are king for getting an interview. But what if you don't have a referral? Applying with Provn is designed to help you get more interviews. Instead of sending a cold resume into an ATS and waiting, you will complete a challenge built by arrivia and submit a short video walking through your approach. No time limit. No timers. No restrictions on AI usage. Show how you build with AI.

  • You show how you actually build and ship with coding agents, instead of hoping a resume communicates your skill clearly.
  • Your judgment with AI becomes visible, which no "proficient with AI coding agents" resume bullet can prove.
  • One challenge puts you in front of the engineering team, scored on the work. Priority without a referral!

The hiring manager reviews every completed submission, and strongest candidates go straight to an interview round. No referral needed. Performance over pedigree. Proof over polish.

For this role, the challenge is a significant part of your candidacy, and only completed applications that include the challenge submission will be considered.
