What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote radiology tech?

To thrive as a Remote Radiology Tech, you need a solid understanding of radiologic imaging procedures, anatomy, and safety protocols, supported by an accredited radiologic technologist certification (such as ARRT) and state licensure. Familiarity with digital imaging systems like PACS, telehealth platforms, and secure data transmission tools is crucial. Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong communication skills help you collaborate effectively with remote healthcare teams and patients. Mastery of these skills ensures high-quality diagnostic imaging, patient safety, and efficient remote workflow management.

What is a remote radiology tech?

A Remote Radiology Tech is a healthcare professional who operates radiologic imaging equipment, such as X-ray or CT machines, from a location separate from where the patient is physically present. They work with on-site staff to capture high-quality medical images used for diagnosis and treatment. These techs may assist with image acquisition, quality assurance, and transmission of images to radiologists for interpretation. Remote Radiology Techs help expand access to diagnostic imaging services, especially in underserved or rural areas, through telemedicine technology.

Position Description & Requirements

POSITION SUMMARY

Radiology Associates of Florida (RAF) seeks a full-time overnight neuroradiologist to staff the overnight shift at Tampa General Hospital. This academic position has 100% focused neuro case mix, remote, with a 7 on 14 off schedule and flexible starting hours based on candidate preference. In Tampa, we serve a growing health care system that is a stroke center of excellence and collaborate with our other RAF divisions around the state to offer candidates an optimal study mix. We perform a full breadth of neuroradiology examinations, including in the domains of trauma, stroke (including CT perfusion with RAPID software), oncology, dementia, movement disorders, as well as functional MRI.

We are affiliated with the University of South Florida. We have 8 residents a year and one neuroradiology fellow. Our ideal candidate has an interest in teaching neuroradiology, particularly to the fellow. This position has the opportunity for faculty appointment. Dedicated didactic lectures are not required but are welcome.

We have a team-based style of practice, and our next neuroradiologist will be able to collaborate with an experienced team of subspecialists.

We offer an internal moonlighting program with unmatched flexibility, allowing radiologists to moonlight from home as much or as little as they prefer, without having to commit to extra shifts.

LOCAL PRACTICE AND COMMUNITY OVERVIEW

RAF is the largest radiology practice in Florida. We serve the most prestigious, established health systems in the state, including on the east and west coasts, the Florida Panhandle, and the Keys. Our scale affords our practice stability and affords our radiologists flexibility in study mix and scheduling. We also recognize that scale alone does not beget excellence. We are quality-oriented, and we practice radiology at the cutting edge, encouraging subspecialty-level interpretations across the practice, and facilitating collaboration and consultation between our radiologists.

Our state-of-the-art IT suite includes universal PACS across the practice, AI tools, and integrated doc-to-doc communication widgets.

Our practice is locally and democratically led, with decisions vested in the hands of the group at large, rather than in a few founders or a small group of shareholders. We are the teaching physicians for the University of South Florida Department of Radiology in Tampa. In Sarasota, our physicians staff the Florida State University College of Medicine, hosting medical students in their 3rd and 4th years. We also invite residents from the FSU Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine Residency programs to rotate in our departments.

Our diverse group of radiologists work and socialize together in our communities around Florida. Even between our communities across the state, we are one practice. We look forward to letting you get to know us better!
