Job Summary:

The Senior Research Manager is a key contributor within Mercer Advisors' Portfolio Management Group (PMG), which is responsible for the oversight and implementation of the firm's investment solutions across billable AUM. This includes portfolio strategies, Separately Managed Accounts (SMAs), mutual funds, ETFs, special situations, and private investment vehicles.

In this role, the Senior Research Manager will support the investment research process through manager due diligence, capital markets research, performance analysis, and documentation of investment policies and procedures. The analyst will work closely with the Director, Investment Research, and other members of the Investment Research Team to ensure the integrity and effectiveness of the firm's investment platform. 

Essential Job Functions will include:

Asset Market Analysis:

  • Collect, analyze, and maintain asset class-level data and performance metrics (e.g. Modern Portfolio Theory statistics), with a focus on fixed income, special solutions, and derivative instruments.
  • Take a leadership role in the design and evaluation of asset class investment frameworks, portfolios, and SMA strategies.

Fund Manager Analysis:

  • Conduct initial and ongoing due diligence of traditional, systematic, and quantitative investment managers and strategies.
  • Build, monitor, and refine tools to analyze performance attribution and risk management.
  • Draft, maintain, and update detailed memos on strategies – incorporating due diligence questionnaires, fund manager engagement and quantitative monitoring reports – that adhere to compliance and operational guidelines.

Communication:

  • Prepare materials and analysis for Mercer Advisors' Investment Committee and sub-committees.
  • Contribute to capital markets research and assist in the development of educational content for internal stakeholders.
  • Support the documentation and maintenance of departmental investment policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Investment Research on regulatory audits and internal documentation reviews.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Qualifications:

  • MBA or CFA preferred; candidates with backgrounds in computer science, engineering, statistics, or related quantitative fields are also encouraged to apply.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in investment research, portfolio analysis, or related field.
  • Deep understanding of financial markets, portfolio theory, asset class structures, fund manager attribution analysis, derivatives, risk management, and statistical modeling.
  • Proficient programming skills (e.g. R, Python, SQL, and/or Microsoft VBA).
  • Experience in data management, including working with financial market data vendors (e.g. Ycharts, FactSet, Bloomberg, Morningstar, S&P Global DataInsight), database construction (e.g. Microsoft Fabric) and data visualization tools; experience with Orion, Custom Direct Indexing, a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive projects with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to lead ad hoc working group projects on behalf of the Investment Committee.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a remote or hybrid team environment.

Work Schedule: 

Daytime and evening hours as needed.

Travel: 

Estimate 5% - 10% travel.

Working Conditions: 

Professional office environment. Working inside. Standing and sitting. No heavy lifting over 10 lbs.

Actual base pay within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the applicant's geographic location, relevant experience, education, skills and licenses/certifications. This position is also eligible to earn incentive compensation through one of Mercer Advisors' incentive compensation programs.

Base Pay Range
$120,000—$140,000 USD
