Your Role and Impact
The 1040 Tax Supervisor will serve as a key member of the firm's established High Net Worth (HNW) 1040 group, responsible for preparing and reviewing individual income tax returns while providing day-to-day guidance and support to staff preparers. This role combines hands-on tax preparation, technical review, and staff development to help ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to firm standards during peak tax seasons.
This position is ideal for an experienced tax professional who enjoys both preparing returns and mentoring staff while contributing to a collaborative and client-focused tax practice.
This position plays a key role in return production, quality control, and staff development during peak tax seasons.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Prepare individual (Form 1040) income tax returns, including complex returns involving multiple income sources, investments, pass-through entities, rental activities, and other high-net-worth tax matters
  • Prepare complex multi-state individual income tax returns
  • Prepare and review returns with significant Schedule C business activities and Schedule E rental real estate, partnership, S corporation, estate, and trust income
  • Review Form 1040 returns prepared by staff and provide feedback to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance
  • Identify and resolve tax issues, missing information, IRS and state notices, and tax planning opportunities
  • Ensure proper application of federal and state individual income tax laws
  • Provide technical guidance and support to staff throughout the return preparation process
  • Train and mentor staff on the preparation of Form 1040 returns, including best practices and firm standards
  • Provide constructive feedback to improve staff accuracy, efficiency, and technical development
  • Prepare and review amended tax returns and extensions as needed
  • Escalate complex technical matters to Managers and Partners as appropriate
  • Communicate with internal team members regarding open items and clarification requests
  • Maintain high standards for accuracy, documentation, and workflow efficiency
  • Support seasonal workload peaks and meet firm deadlines
  • Adhere to firm processes, checklists, and quality control procedures

What You Bring to the Table
  • Active CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) license required
  • 3 - 5+ years of experience in individual tax preparation and review experience in a public accounting environment, with a strong focus on Form 1040 engagements
  • Experience preparing and reviewing multi-state individual income tax returns
  • Experience with Schedule C and Schedule E tax reporting
  • Experience working with high-net-worth individuals and complex individual tax engagements preferred
  • Prior experience reviewing returns and/or training or mentoring junior staff preferred
  • Strong understanding of federal and state individual income tax rules
  • Experience with tax preparation software (preferably CCH Axcess)
  • Experience using CCH AnswerConnect or similar tax research tools preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a hybrid team
