This role combines GIS analysis, traffic modeling, and benefit-cost evaluation, along with support for grant writing and funding applications.

Your impact:

Analyze Data and Utilize Transportation Modeling Software

  • Analyze large transportation datasets (traffic counts, travel times, transit ridership, safety data, etc.)

    • Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel to manipulate large data sets, prepare report-ready graphs and charts, and develop tools

    • Experience in (or desire to learn) Python and other data analysis coding software

  • Develop and maintain traffic models (e.g., microsimulation, travel demand models)

    • Experience with TransCAD and Synchro is strongly preferred

    • Experience with additional modeling software, such as Vistro and PTV Vissim, will also be well received

  • Perform scenario analysis to evaluate infrastructure or policy changes

  • Support forecasting of traffic volumes, congestion, and system performance

Utilize GIS Tools & Conduct Spatial Analyses

  • Use GIS tools (e.g. ArcGIS Pro, QGIS) to analyze and visualize transportation networks

  • Create maps, dashboards, and spatial datasets for planning and reporting

  • Conduct spatial analysis such as accessibility, equity, and corridor analysis

Conduct Benefit-Cost & Economic Analyses

  • Perform benefit-cost analyses (BCA) for transportation projects

  • Quantify benefits such as travel time savings, safety improvements, emissions reduction, and economic impacts

  • Support development of performance metrics aligned with federal/state funding requirements

Provide Grant Writing & Funding Support

  • Assist in preparing grant applications (e.g., U.S. Department of Transportation programs such as RAISE/INFRA)

  • Develop data-driven narratives, maps, and exhibits for proposals

  • Compile supporting documentation, including BCA and project justifications

Preparation of Reports & Communication

  • Prepare technical reports, memos, and presentations

  • Communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Collaborate with planners, engineers, and external stakeholders

Who you are

  • A mid-level Transportation Data Analyst / Modeler to support data-driven planning, modeling, and investment decision-making for multimodal transportation systems. This role combines GIS analysis, traffic modeling, and benefit-cost evaluation, along with support for grant writing and funding applications.

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Urban & Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, Computer Science, or related field.

  • 6+ years of work experience in data analysis, GIS, and transportation modeling is preferred.

  • Diversified experience with transportation projects, with a preference on projects involving roadway improvements (including complete streets, multi-modal corridors).

  • Experience working with transportation datasets, travel demand or traffic models, and geospatial tools, and can translate technical analysis into actionable insights for planners, engineers, and stakeholders.
