Common Industry UsageWeb services, API development, SaaS platformsFull-stack or server-side development across industries

Remote Python Api Developers focus specifically on designing and maintaining APIs using Python, often working on web services and SaaS platforms. Remote Backend Developers have a broader scope, working with multiple programming languages and handling server-side logic across various industries. While both roles require backend skills, the Python Api Developer specializes in API-centric tasks with Python as the primary language.

What are some common challenges faced by remote Python API Developers, and how can these be managed effectively?

Remote Python API Developers often face challenges such as coordinating with distributed teams across time zones, ensuring clear communication about API requirements, and managing code consistency and integration. To overcome these, it's important to use collaborative tools like version control systems, participate actively in code reviews, and schedule regular check-ins with team members. Adopting well-documented coding standards and leveraging automated testing can also help maintain code quality and streamline collaboration.

What does a Remote Python API Developer do?

A Remote Python API Developer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining application programming interfaces (APIs) using the Python programming language. These developers work from remote locations, collaborating with teams via online tools to create scalable and efficient APIs that allow different software applications to communicate. Their tasks often include writing clean and secure code, integrating third-party services, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring that APIs meet performance and security standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Python API Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Python API Developer, you need a solid understanding of Python programming, experience with RESTful API design, and familiarity with frameworks such as Django or Flask, often supported by a relevant degree or certifications. Proficiency in using version control systems like Git, API documentation tools (e.g., Swagger), and cloud platforms (such as AWS or Azure) is typically expected. Excellent problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and effective remote communication are crucial soft skills for success in this role. These competencies ensure robust API development, seamless team collaboration, and reliable delivery of scalable software solutions in a remote work environment.

This role is focused on creative problem-solving and process engineering, using APIs, scripting, and low-code/no-code solutions to connect disparate systems, reduce manual effort, and improve data-driven decision-making. • Write, test, and maintain Python, JavaScript and Groovy scripts to perform tasks that are not possible with out-of-the-box automation tools.
  • Serve as the technical lead for integrating Jira and SharePoint Online, ensuring seamless data flow between platforms.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and business analysts to gather requirements, map existing processes ("as-is"), and design optimized automated workflows ("to-be").
  • Create and maintain clear technical documentation, including solution design documents, process flow diagrams, and user guides for all developed automations.
  • Provide tier-3 support for deployed automations, including troubleshooting API connection issues, debugging script errors, and refining logic.
  • Stay abreast of the latest features and best practices within the Atlassian and Microsoft Power Platform ecosystems to continuously improve solutions.
  • Ensure all solutions are developed and deployed in accordance with organizational security and compliance policies.

Qualifications:

Clearance Level: Secret with eligibility for upgrade to Top Secret (TS)

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or have equivalent work experience.

Certifications: Must possess DoD 8570 IAT Level II and DoD 8140 CSSP Auditor compliant certifications.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated mastery of the Microsoft Power Platform, including building complex flows in Power Automate and developing custom forms and applications with Power Apps.
  • Strong proficiency in consuming and interacting with REST APIs for systems integration (e.g., Jira, SharePoint, Microsoft Graph).
  • Advanced experience in scripting with Python, JavaScript and Groovy for automation, data manipulation, and integration tasks.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex business processes and translate user requirements into technical specifications for automated solutions.
  • Deep understanding of SharePoint Online architecture, including lists, libraries, permissions, and content types as they relate to automation.
  • Experience with data formats such as JSON and XML.
  • Familiarity with authentication and authorization concepts for APIs (e.g., OAuth, API Keys, Service Principals).

Highly desired skills:

  • Experience with native Jira automation and advanced scripting using Atlassian Groovy (ScriptRunner).
  • Proficiency with Jira Query Language (JQL) for complex data retrieval and reporting.
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Graph API to automate tasks across the M365 ecosystem beyond SharePoint.
  • Experience working within an Agile, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), or Kanban development environment.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
  • Basic database knowledge (SQL or NoSQL) for managing and querying datasets used in automations.
  • A strong design sense for creating intuitive and user-friendly Power Apps interfaces.
