Remote Prototyping Engineer information

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior engineers in fields such as software, petroleum, and aerospace often earn $300,000 or more annually, especially with extensive experience, specialized skills, and leadership roles. High compensation may also include bonuses, stock options, or profit sharing, particularly in technology and energy sectors.

What does a prototype engineer do?

A prototype engineer designs, develops, and tests early models of products or systems to evaluate their functionality, feasibility, and design. They use tools like CAD software and 3D printing, and often collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine concepts before mass production.

What is a C&I engineer?

A C&I (Control and Instrumentation) engineer designs, develops, and maintains control systems and instrumentation used in industrial processes. They work with automation tools, PLCs, and SCADA systems to ensure efficient and safe operation of equipment. This role often requires knowledge of electrical engineering, programming, and industry standards.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

Highly experienced engineers in specialized fields such as software engineering, data science, or engineering management can earn $500,000 or more annually, especially in senior or executive roles at large tech companies. These positions often require advanced skills, extensive experience, and sometimes stock options or bonuses as part of compensation packages.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Prototyping Engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Prototyping Engineer, you need a strong background in engineering fundamentals, rapid prototyping techniques, and experience in CAD design, typically backed by a relevant degree. Familiarity with prototyping tools such as 3D printers, CNC machines, and collaborative platforms like SolidWorks or Fusion 360 is essential; certifications in product design or manufacturing can be advantageous. Strong problem-solving skills, effective remote communication, and self-motivation are vital soft skills for success in distributed teams. These competencies enable efficient development of innovative prototypes, ensure clear collaboration, and drive project success in a remote environment.

What does a Remote Prototyping Engineer do?

A Remote Prototyping Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and testing prototypes of products or systems while working from a remote location. They use digital tools to collaborate with teams, create models, and iterate on designs based on feedback. Their work is essential in transforming concepts into tangible prototypes that can be evaluated for functionality, usability, and manufacturability. This role typically requires strong technical skills, experience with prototyping software, and effective remote communication abilities.

How does a Remote Prototyping Engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams while working remotely?

Remote Prototyping Engineers often work closely with product managers, designers, and developers to transform ideas into functional prototypes. Collaboration is facilitated through regular video meetings, shared digital workspaces, and version-controlled repositories for code and design assets. Effective communication and documentation are essential to ensure alignment across time zones and disciplines. By using collaborative tools like Slack, Figma, and GitHub, Remote Prototyping Engineers can efficiently iterate on prototypes and incorporate feedback from stakeholders, ensuring project momentum even in a distributed work environment.

What is the difference between Remote Prototyping Engineer vs Remote Product Designer?

AspectRemote Prototyping EngineerRemote Product Designer
Primary FocusDeveloping and testing prototypes to validate technical feasibilityDesigning user interfaces and experiences for products
Skills & CredentialsEngineering background, prototyping tools, technical knowledgeDesign skills, UX/UI tools, creativity
Work EnvironmentCollaborates with engineers and developersWorks closely with users, product managers, and developers
Industry UsageTech, hardware, software developmentTech, consumer apps, digital products

While both roles involve creating prototypes, the Remote Prototyping Engineer focuses on technical feasibility and engineering prototypes, whereas the Remote Product Designer emphasizes user experience and visual design. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right role based on your skills and career goals.

Job description

About the Role
MGT is hiring a Senior AI Developer to join our AI Operating Group (AI OG). The AI OG is responsible for both internal AI tool development and client-facing AI solution delivery, primarily serving the state and local government market.
This is a deeply technical, hands-on role. You will build the AI systems that power our client engagements and internal product suite - not prototype them, not advise on them. You will own the code, the architecture, and the output. The right person for this role has real AI development experience, is fluent in the Microsoft Azure ecosystem, and takes pride in shipping things that actually work in production.
This is not a consulting role, but you will work closely with client-facing teams. You should be comfortable translating ambiguous business requirements into clean technical solutions, and working across a team where not everyone speaks your language.
What You'll Do
  • Build and maintain production-grade AI solutions including RAG pipelines, agentic workflows, and multi-agent systems
  • Develop on the Microsoft Azure AI stack, including Azure OpenAI Service, Azure AI Foundry, and related services
  • Architect and implement data pipelines and integration patterns that connect AI capabilities to client systems and data sources
  • Work with tool-layer integration standards such as MCP (Model Context Protocol) to connect agents with enterprise systems
  • Develop reusable components, skills, templates, and accelerators that scale across multiple engagements
  • Collaborate with AI Solutions Architects and project leads to translate solution designs into working builds
  • Contribute to and help set technical standards for the AI OG's code-first development practices
  • Support internal product development across MGT's AI tool suite
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 2 years focused on AI or machine learning applications
  • Hands-on experience building with LLMs, including RAG architectures, agentic design patterns, prompt engineering, or vector databases
  • Demonstrated Azure experience, including Azure OpenAI Service or Azure AI Foundry
  • Strong Python development skills
  • Ability to independently scope and deliver technical solutions with minimal oversight
  • A builder mentality: you would rather figure it out and ship it than wait for a detailed specification
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Microsoft Copilot Studio or Power Platform
  • Background in data architecture, ETL/ELT pipelines, or analytics platforms
  • Experience with frameworks such as LangChain or LangGraph
  • Prior work in consulting, professional services, or client-facing technical delivery
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
What Success Looks Like
  • Within 30 days: You understand our current tool suite, architecture patterns, and active client engagements. You have shipped something.
  • Within 90 days: You are independently owning technical builds on client projects and contributing to internal product development.
  • Within 6 months: You are setting technical standards for the team, accelerating junior developers, and driving architectural decisions on complex engagements.
Why MGT
You will be joining a team that is actively building and shipping AI products, not talking about them. We have real tools in production, real clients using them, and a leadership team that understands both the technology and the business.
This is a high-visibility role with direct access to senior leadership and the opportunity to shape how AI gets delivered across the organization. We are building the AI practice from the ground up, which means you will have an outsized impact on the tools, processes, and culture of the team.
Our philosophy: clean data foundations first, AI layered on top. Process understanding before automation. Empowering domain experts to build, not centralizing AI capability in a silo. If that resonates with you, this is your team.
NOTE: We currently do not accept candidates who require sponsorship, nor are we able to provide sponsorship opportunities to candidates.
Positions are available in Salt Lake City, Utah; Washington, D.C.; and remote. Remote employees will be expected to travel to an office periodically.
