Position Summary:

The Director of Community Outreach and Engagement will play a critical leadership role in advancing ZERO Prostate Cancerโ€™s health equity initiative, โ€œBlitz the Barriers,โ€ a national project aimed at reducing prostate cancer disparities in underserved and historically marginalized communities.

Reporting to the Vice President of Community Outreach and Engagement and serving as a key member of the Mission Team, this position will lead strategic community engagement efforts across multiple regions. The Director will oversee outreach programs, drive local engagement strategies, and cultivate meaningful partnerships to expand access to prostate cancer education, screening, and support services.

This role will manage a team of 2โ€“3 direct reports responsible for executing community activations, fostering local relationships, and ensuring strong partner stewardship. The ideal candidate brings a deep commitment to health equity, strong leadership and relationship-building skills, and experience developing and managing impactful community-based initiatives.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:ย 

1. Strategic Leadership:
  • Develop and implement comprehensive community engagement and outreach strategies aligned with the ZERO Health Equity Project goals.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President to set objectives, timelines, and key performance indicators forย  departmental initiatives.
  • Provide strategic oversight and support to local Community Engagement Committees (CECs) in pilot and priority communities.

2. Program Management:

  • Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of multi-regional community-based prostate cancer awareness and screening programs.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with diverse stakeholders across regions, including healthcare providers, community-based organizations, and volunteers.
  • Work collaboratively with ZEROโ€™s Patient Navigation and Measurement & Evaluation teams to ensure seamless national program execution and impact tracking.ย 

3. Partnership Development:

  • Identify and cultivate partnerships with local organizations, including Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), primary care providers, safety net hospitals, and urology practices.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with community-based organizations (CBOs) to expand ZERO's reach and impact.
  • Seek opportunities to partner with non-traditional organizations and recruit diverse volunteers and patient support resources.

4. Community Engagement:

  • Lead planning and execution of roundtables, health fairs, outreach events, and educational forums in target communities.
  • Collaborate with local leaders, healthcare professionals, and community advocates to elevate awareness and encourage early prostate cancer detection.

5. Team Leadership:

  • Supervise and mentor a team of up to 10ย Community Engagement Managers, and volunteers.
  • Foster a culture of inclusivity, cultural competence, and community-centered approach within the team.
  • Provide leadership for a remote, distributed team to ensure collaboration and accountability across regions.

6. Data and Reporting:

  • Partner with the Director of Measurement & Evaluation to collect and analyze data on program outcomes and community impact.
  • Contribute to the development of white papers, reports, and presentations on project outcomes and best practices.
  • Prepare regular reports on community engagement activities, challenges, and successes for leadership and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Community Development, Social Work, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in community engagement, public health outreach, or related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership role at a national level.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse, underserved communities and addressing health disparities.
  • Strong understanding of health equity principles and social determinants of health.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain partnerships with various stakeholders.
  • Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Proficiency in project management and data analysis.
  • Experience leading remote teams and managing staff across different locations.
  • National program management experience, with a demonstrated ability to lead large-scale initiatives across multiple communities.
  • Passion for ZERO's mission and commitment to reducing prostate cancer disparities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading and launching public health programs within major metropolitan areas and states, specifically: Atlanta, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Detroit, New Orleans, and Mississippi.


Physical Requirements:

  • Constant use of a computer and other office productivity equipment, such as computer printer, calculator, and copier.ย 
  • Prolonged periods of a stationary position at least 50% of the time.
  • The ability to recognize details at close range for extended periods of time.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.


Salary Range: $90K - $110K

This position is based remotely and candidates may live in any area within the United States. This position will require nationwide travel, approximately 20% of the time (twice per quarter)ย
