JFT is growing and looking for a Bid and Proposal Engineer to join our team in Loveland, CO. JFT offers some work from home flexibility, but candidates must be within commuting distance to the office. The anticipated closing date for this posting is 6/01/2026 and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Job Function:

The Bid and Proposal Engineer supports business development by translating customer requests into compliant, competitive, and technically sound proposals. Develops concepts, evaluates manufacturability, and establishes cost structures through engineering expertise, commercial awareness, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Core Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review and interpret customer Requests for Proposals (RFPs), specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Identify and understand quality, regulatory, and technical requirements outlined in bid packages.
  • Develop work breakdown structures (WBS) and task sequencing to support bid planning.
  • Generate conceptual designs and technical approaches using first-order physical science principles.
  • Evaluate manufacturability and recommend appropriate manufacturing techniques.
  • Gather cost data for raw materials, subcontracted services, and commercially available products.
  • Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, and procurement teams to validate proposal assumptions, schedules, and costs.
  • Prepare clear and accurate technical and commercial proposal documents.
  • Ensure proposal compliance with company processes, quality standards, and customer requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement of proposal tools, templates, and costing models.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in engineering, design, or proposal development.
  • Strong background in manufacturing processes such as machining, fabrication, welding, assembly.
  • Proven ability to develop engineering concepts from first principles and evaluate technical feasibility.
  • Experience with cost estimation, project scheduling, and proposal writing.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems such as ISO 9001, AS9100 and NQA-1.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical information into clear proposals.
  • Business acumen and commercial awareness.

Typical Working Conditions:

Primarily an office environment with work periodically performed in the fabrication/machine shop and outdoor testing areas. Depending on the project, there may be occasional travel to customer job sites. JFT has implemented a 9/80 work schedule, and the office is closed every other Friday.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to work on a computer (standing or sitting) for most of the day and use standard office equipment. The ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with team members, customers, and vendors is essential. May occasionally lift and carry objects, materials, or equipment, typically under 50 pounds. Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and crawling to access and inspect equipment or systems may also be necessary.

Under applicable DOE orders and client contracts, non-U.S. citizens (including lawful permanent residents) may require an approved DOE Foreign National Visit/Assignment (FNVA) before starting work.
