Job description

We are a 100% virtual CPA firm, with our team located across the United States. As a real estate niche-focused firm, we serve Real Estate Investors, Syndicates, and Fund Managers. Our team is passionate about real estate and often owns investment properties.

We are on a mission to change the accounting industry by creating the premier people-first firm where strong, talented team members thrive. We are innovators of tax services and firm culture with work-life integration. We accomplish this by using the best technology and automation on the market, offering unlimited vacation and sick days, fostering an autonomous work environment, providing ongoing, engaging training, and offering health insurance and 401(k) matching.

As a Real Estate Tax Advisor at our firm, you will primarily focus on tax planning and advisory services for real estate investors who own and manage properties and invest in real estate syndications. Generally, Senior Advisors will spend 50% of their time in direct client meetings via Zoom. Tax Advisors will also provide technical input on tax and accounting issues, research tax solutions, train less-experienced staff, and nurture client relationships.

The most important characteristic of our Advisory team is our ability to deliver on promises and meet deadlines. Our clients depend on us to guide them through complex issues and to provide practical steps for implementing our recommended strategies or positions (or minimizing their tax liability). This can include delivering complex information in a way the client can absorb and apply in practice. Our job is to build strong foundations of trust by delivering on our commitments, clearly and concisely.

Team members who thrive at our firm have strong time-management skills, are self-starters, are adaptable, take pride in their work, and thrive in an autonomous environment. We measure our success by accuracy, clarity, and our ability to lead projects to completion. Having a passion for/or experience with tax planning and/or real estate investing is a strong plus.

Annual Salary + Bonus Starting at: $110,000

Areas of Responsibility
  • Serve as the primary client contact, ensuring their best interests are represented, with up to 50% of time spent meeting with clients via Zoom
  • Create and deliver tailored tax plans to clients, and update those plans periodically
  • Maintain strong client relationships by managing their expectations, being responsive to their communications/emails, and reaching out proactively
  • Research complex tax issues, citing the Internal Revenue Code and supporting sources, and provide recommendations for resolution
  • Coordinate the client's tax preparation needs with the tax preparation team, and assist with client communication during tax season to ensure proposed strategies are implemented
  • Remain updated on changes in tax laws and procedures
Measures for Success
  • Achieve an average of 9/10 on your Net Promoter Score surveys
  • Delivering on your promises with clients and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Participation in the expansion of the firm's technical knowledge through research and collaboration with internal teams
Expectations for remote work
  • Clean background with no noise or distractions
  • Business casual attire for client interactions
  • Always use video (80% of communication is non-verbal)
  • We provide a laptop and an annual $500 tech reimbursement for computer/tech accessories
You're a Good Fit For Our Culture If:
  • You're friendly, have a sense of humor, enjoy helping and teaching others, and speak kindly of others
  • You're disciplined and thrive in a fast-paced environment that is in relentless pursuit of changing the accounting industry
  • You have exceptional time management and an internal drive to succeed
  • You possess excellent communication and listening skills, breaking down barriers to solve problems and improve operational performance
  • You take ownership of your work and clients, and drive projects to the finish line
  • You love working with and speaking to clients, delivering results, and improving their lives
Required Education and Experience:
  • CPA or EA Certification (CPA Preferred)
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Accounting or Tax from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of real estate and small business tax compliance and/or planning experience.
  • Experience working directly with clients, managing client relationships, and ensuring engagement objectives are met accurately and on time.
  • Experience performing tax projections and estimates using professional tax planning software (e.g., BNA Tax Planner, CCH Prosystem fx Planning, etc.).
  • Effective written and oral communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Preferred: Experience with partnership syndications, including knowledge of waterfall allocations and operating agreements.
