What is a remote property manager?

A remote property manager is a professional who oversees and manages real estate properties from a location other than the property itself, often working from home or a central office. Their responsibilities typically include coordinating maintenance and repairs, handling tenant communications, processing rent payments, and ensuring compliance with property regulations. They use digital tools and platforms to perform their duties efficiently without being physically present at the property. This role is especially common for managing multiple properties or properties located in different regions.

What does a remote property manager do?

As a remote property manager, you handle the day-to-day management of a rental property from a remote or virtual location. Your responsibilities typically include explaining lease terms to a new tenant, coordinating any maintenance of the buildings and grounds, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations as necessary. You also oversee tax requirements as necessary. You are essentially a landlord with all of the associated duties but are home-based. You may work with a real estate agent to find renters for a site, or you have more than one client and manage several properties.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote property manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Property Manager, you need a solid understanding of property management practices, leasing regulations, and financial oversight, usually supported by relevant experience or a real estate/property management certification. Familiarity with property management software (such as AppFolio or Buildium), virtual communication tools, and digital document management systems is essential. Outstanding organizational skills, proactive communication, and problem-solving abilities are crucial soft skills for managing tenants and coordinating with contractors remotely. These skills and qualities are important to ensure efficient operations, tenant satisfaction, and effective oversight of properties from a distance.

How does a remote property manager effectively handle maintenance issues without being on-site?

As a Remote Property Manager, handling maintenance issues requires strong communication and reliable local partnerships. You’ll typically coordinate with trusted vendors or contractors in the property's area, leveraging digital tools to receive photos, updates, and invoices. Clear protocols and responsive communication with both tenants and service providers are essential for timely resolutions. Building a network of reliable local contacts and using property management software can streamline the entire process, ensuring issues are addressed efficiently even from a distance.

Job description

Job Description

A rapidly growing technology company transforming the resident experience for property managers and renters is looking for a Staff Quality Assurance Engineer to help establish and scale a modern quality engineering practice. The company has built a resident experience platform designed to simplify everything from resident onboarding and services to property management workflows, creating a more convenient experience for residents while helping property managers operate more efficiently. With a growing engineering organization and a strong focus on continuous improvement, they're investing heavily in automation, AI-assisted testing, and engineering quality.

As a Staff Quality Assurance Engineer, you'll play a highly influential role in defining how quality is built across the organization. Rather than serving as a traditional manual QA resource or release gatekeeper, you'll own automated testing strategy and frameworks across multiple product teams, with an initial focus on high-risk, consumer-facing resident experiences. You'll work closely with Engineering, Product, and Platform teams to build reliable end-to-end coverage, modernize integration testing, identify system testability gaps, and establish measurable quality standards across the development lifecycle.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior quality engineering professional who views testing as an engineering discipline and enjoys building systems that enable other engineers to deliver higher-quality software. You'll have significant autonomy, work across the entire technology organization, and help shape an AI-first approach to quality engineering using tools such as Claude, MCP, APIs, and CLI-based workflows. If you're passionate about test automation, engineering quality, AI-assisted development, and building scalable testing infrastructure from the ground up, this is an outstanding opportunity to have a significant impact.

This is a full-time remote position open to candidates located anywhere in the United States, with an expectation of working an 8-to-5 EST schedule. The company offers competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, flexible PTO, and the opportunity to help build a modern quality engineering organization within a rapidly growing technology company.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Staff-level software engineering experience with deep expertise in Quality Engineering and test automation
  • Strong experience designing, coding, and maintaining automated testing frameworks across multiple layers, including unit, integration, contract, and browser/E2E testing
  • Strong experience with TypeScript/Node.js and modern software engineering practices
  • Hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks such as Jest and Playwright
  • Experience testing distributed, service-oriented systems and validating functionality across service boundaries
  • Strong understanding of API testing, integration testing, and automated test architecture
  • Experience working with AWS and cloud-based applications
  • Ability to define and implement organization-wide testing strategies and quality standards
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to coach engineers, collaborate with Product Managers, and influence technical leaders
  • Ability to work independently, identify ambiguous quality problems, and drive them to measurable outcomes
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Experience standing up or scaling a Quality Engineering practice within a growing engineering organization
  • Experience using AI tools such as Claude to improve testing workflows and engineering productivity
  • Experience building AI-assisted workflows, agent skills, MCP integrations, or automated testing tooling
  • Experience with PostgreSQL and data-integrity testing
  • Experience with performance and load testing
  • Familiarity with React and frontend application architecture
  • Experience with Redis and queue-based asynchronous processing
  • Experience with Datadog and application observability, including Real User Monitoring (RUM)
  • Experience in PropTech, real estate technology, or B2B2C SaaS environments
What You Will Be Doing Daily Responsibilities
  • Own the automated testing strategy and frameworks across the company's core products
  • Establish comprehensive automated coverage for critical user journeys and high-risk product experiences
  • Build and maintain end-to-end testing infrastructure using tools such as Playwright, Jest, and contract testing frameworks
  • Create risk-weighted testing strategies and establish measurable quality metrics across engineering teams
  • Build dashboards and reporting mechanisms that provide visibility into automated test coverage, production traffic coverage, and escaped defects
  • Modernize integration testing by replacing manual partner verification processes with API-based automated testing
  • Identify and resolve environment, testability, and tooling gaps that prevent teams from effectively testing their systems
  • Develop AI-first testing workflows using Claude, MCP tooling, APIs, and CLI-based automation to make complex testing faster and more repeatable
  • Partner with Engineering teams to establish quality earlier in the development lifecycle rather than relying on testing at the end of the process
  • Coach developers on automated testing best practices and help engineers take ownership of their own test coverage
  • Establish CI quality guardrails, coverage ratchets, deployment health metrics, and processes for reducing flaky tests
  • Track escaped defects and quality trends against critical user flows and engineering performance metrics
  • Partner with engineering leadership and product teams to identify opportunities to improve system reliability, testability, and overall software quality
The Offer

You will receive the following benefits:

  • Competitive Salary
  • Medical Insurance
  • Dental Benefits
  • Vision Benefits
  • 401(k)
  • Flexible/Open Paid Time Off
  • Remote Work from Anywhere in the US
  • Bi-annual In-Person Company Meetings
  • Opportunity to help establish and shape a Quality Engineering practice
  • High ownership and autonomy within a rapidly growing technology organization
  • Opportunity to work with modern AI-assisted engineering and testing technologies

Applicants must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis now and in the future.
