Remote proofreaders use digital tools to edit content for businesses, publishers, authors, and other clients. This job offers flexibility, allowing professionals to work from home or anywhere with internet access. It requires strong attention to detail, excellent language skills, and the ability to meet deadlines. Remote proofreading can be done on a freelance, part-time, or full-time basis.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote proofreader?

To thrive as a Remote Proofreader, you need excellent command of grammar, spelling, and punctuation, often supported by a degree in English, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with editing software like Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and style guides such as AP or Chicago Manual of Style is typical. Attention to detail, time management, and strong written communication are crucial soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure high-quality, error-free documents and efficient collaboration with clients or editorial teams in a remote environment.

Location: Remote, anywhere in New Mexico
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $25-$40/hour, depending on experience
Firm: Baker Law Group

About the Role

Baker Law Group is seeking an experienced New Mexico Paralegal to support our growing practice. This is a full-time, remote role, and the right candidate may be located anywhere in New Mexico.

This position will support attorneys handling a mix of law, including real estate litigation, oil and gas, probate-related work, guardianship/conservatorship, and general civil litigation support. The ideal candidate will already understand New Mexico court systems, filing procedures, deadlines, and local practice expectations.

We are looking for someone who can step in quickly, help organize a fast-moving caseload, and provide reliable support to attorneys who are actively growing the firm's New Mexico presence.

What You'll Do

Responsibilities may include:

  • Prepare, organize, and file documents in New Mexico courts
  • Manage e-filing and court-specific filing requirements
  • Calendar deadlines and help attorneys stay ahead of case timelines
  • Track and organize incoming mail and case-related correspondence
  • Assist with drafting projects, pleadings, motions, packets, and other legal documents
  • Help prepare filings, exhibits, and supporting materials
  • Monitor case deadlines, court notices, and judge-specific requirements
  • Communicate with attorneys regarding case status, missing information, and next steps
  • Support real estate litigation, oil and gas, probate, guardianship/conservatorship, and general civil matters
  • Help create consistency and structure as the firm expands its New Mexico practice
  • Provide detail-oriented remote support to attorneys working across multiple matters

What We're Looking For

The strongest candidate will have direct experience working with New Mexico courts and understand how filings, deadlines, judge communications, and procedural requirements work in this state.

Ideal qualifications include:

  • Prior paralegal experience in New Mexico
  • Strong familiarity with New Mexico court filing systems and procedures
  • Experience calendaring deadlines and managing active case timelines
  • Strong drafting, editing, proofreading, and document-preparation skills
  • Litigation support experience
  • Probate, guardianship, conservatorship, real estate, oil and gas, regulatory, administrative, or business law experience preferred but not required
  • Ability to work remotely while staying highly organized and responsive
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple matters at once
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced legal environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and proactively without constant oversight

Work Environment

This is a remote position, but we would prefer a candidate currently in New Mexico. The role requires someone who can work independently, communicate clearly, and stay on top of details without needing constant reminders.

Our practice is growing, and this person will play an important role in helping the attorneys serve clients efficiently, stay organized, and expand the firm's ability to take on more New Mexico matters.

Compensation

This is a full-time position paying $25-$40/hour, depending on experience.

We offer Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance, along with a 401k.
