Job description

Overview

The Graphic Designer is responsible for developing and managing all graphic assets for Goodwill of Greater Washington's (GGW) print and digital marketing initiatives. This includes all GGW affiliates such as the Goodwill Excel Center and others. This role requires a strong critical thinker who can navigate ambiguity, evaluate creative challenges, and deliver thoughtful, effective design solutions that align with strategic goals.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player who works closely with the Senior Director of Brand Experience and Marketing Project Management team to execute against priorities, manage multiple assignments, and ensure projects move efficiently from concept through final production and installation. This role requires the ability to take clear direction from the Senior Director of Brand Experience, translate feedback into actionable design updates, and maintain strict adherence to brand standards across all touchpoints.

Success in this role depends on the ability to react quickly to shifting priorities, multitask effectively across concurrent projects, and remain flexible and open-minded in a fast-paced environment. The designer must be comfortable balancing competing deadlines, making smart prioritization decisions, and delivering high-quality work under tight timelines. 

As an active member of the Marketing team, this role also includes participation all marketing events; while most occur during workdays, some may occasionally occur on a weekend or evening.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1.    Manage and maintain Goodwill of Greater Washington's brand through consistent visual graphics.

2.    Be a contributing Marketing team member by sharing and executing industry best practices.

3.    Effectively manage multiple projects in an organized and efficient manner.

4.    Efficiently communicate and articulate ideas all while receiving and documenting feedback and process clearly.

5.    Understand design nuances across multiple platforms (digital, print, social, web) and follow through not only to final product but also the actual experience and/or final install.

6.    Work under tight project timelines while producing a high-quality product.

7.    Conducts the appropriate research and implements the proper techniques for projects.

8.    Be open to novel ideas and participate in their implementations.

9.    Understand design approaches for both print and digital canvases.

10.    Conduct field visits as needed to better understand and assess what opportunities and/or challenges may inform the design of the marketing/branding intent.

Graphic Design Duties and Responsibilities:

1.    Provide print and digital design services for multiple internal GGW departments, and for external campaigns/promotions.

2.    Create and update print and digital materials (flyers, brochures, newsletters, direct mail, advertisements, PowerPoints, branding guidelines etc.) as well as way finders, retail interior branding, building signage, storefront decals, vehicle wraps, apparels and other unique collaterals.

3.    Create and design informational graphics from text and data-based content.

4.    Effectively communicate with and send print ready artwork to third party printers, follow through installation and/or distribution to ensure final product is as intended.

5.    Create and understand accessibility compliant graphics and formats.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

1.    Minimum of two years of graphic design experience.

2.    College degree in related field or equivalent plus two to four years of email marketing experience.

3.    Ability to respond quickly to directions given by Senior Director of Brand Experience to jumpstart new assets.

4.    Self-motivated with a high level of initiative and a sense of urgency.

5.    Experience with creating large format designs (storefronts, vehicle wraps, signage, banners).

6.    Understanding the difference in digital graphic output and graphics for print.

7.    Strong design problem solving skills, and able to work under restrictions.

8.    Strong understanding of layout, hierarchy, and contrast.

9.    Knowledge of printing procedures, photography, illustration and ability to work with external vendors.

10.    Strong file saving and organizing practices.

Technical and Skill Qualifications:

1.    Adobe Create Suite (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat)
