FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN III

Job Summary:
The Technician, Service III is a Master-level technician responsible for advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems on transit vehicles. This role serves as a subject matter expert (SME) on the product and plays a critical role in ensuring service excellence. In addition to hands-on technical work, the Technician III leads service projects, provides remote and on-site technical assistance, and trains and mentors junior technicians. This position also contributes to production quality control, engineering product improvement, and continuous improvement initiatives across the service and warranty organization. The Technician III may also be called upon to deliver technical training to external customers or support production training efforts.
This position is located in Maui, HI and will report into HQ based in Riverside, CA.
Essential Duties:
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics on electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Lead complex service or repair projects with minimal supervision.
  • Calibrate, repair, and maintain critical system components and safety equipment.
  • Mentor and train junior service technicians (Service I & II).
  • Provide remote and on-site technical assistance.
  • Complete and review service documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate with engineering, production, or OEM partners to resolve service issues.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in safe, functional condition.
  • Adhere to and promote company safety policies and procedures.
  • Identify areas for improvement and provide input on service process enhancements.
  • Support production quality control and engineering product improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in training to stay up to date with evolving technologies.
  • Deliver technical training to external customers or internal production teams as needed.
  • Travel Requirement: This role requires regular travel, including air travel, to customer sites, vendor locations, or company facilities. Approximate travel: 70% of the time.
  • Must maintain all necessary identification and documentation (e.g., valid driver's license, government-issued ID, or passport) to travel by air for work.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Expert knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diagnostic systems.
  • Strong leadership, mentorship, and project coordination skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting ability.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Proficient with diagnostic software and tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Willing and able to travel frequently, including overnight and emergency assignments.
  • Physically able to perform demanding tasks in diverse field environments.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory compliance.

Education, Experience, and/or Required Licenses:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree or vocational training in a technical field preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant service/repair experience in a manufacturing, automotive, or equipment-based environment.
  • Valid driver's license; must be able to obtain a commercial license
  • Certifications (ASE, EPA, etc.) a plus.
