Job description

Job Overview:
The Strategic Business Intelligence Manager delivers high-impact, actionable insights that inform strategic direction for the SBI team and key UNFI stakeholders. This role continuously monitors macroeconomic conditions, grocery and retail trends, and customer and category performance, synthesizing primary and secondary research into clear, data-driven recommendations that elevate both recurring and ad hoc decision-making.
This role requires a researcher mentality with an ability to ask the right questions, seek out information from all sources, and succinctly present analysis and strategic recommendations in written and verbal form. Comfort in developing clear, concise power point briefs is also essential for the role.
Job Responsibilities:
Business Intelligence
  • Ability to contribute to weekly intelligence briefs, without significant team oversight or edits, which include analyzing and summarizing/writing industry, financial, or economic data with your own thoughtful 'So What' analysis for key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Responsible for the creation of earnings briefs that is shared and reviewed with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Leads writing of select First Take earnings briefs on key retailers, suppliers, wholesalers, and other companies and may include business recommendations for action.
  • Ensure consistent and effective brand messaging through all areas of communications, presentations, and updates by conducting primary and secondary research.
  • Support senior leaders with ad-hoc and quarterly recaps that will feed into both the weekly brief and broader industry presentations.
  • Develop reporting strategy, advancing the use of data and visualization and identify value-added enhancements or programs to distill, synthesize and share intelligence.
  • Collects business intelligence data from available industry reports, public information, or purchased sources and is responsible for the integrity of this reporting.

Creates Insights Reporting
  • Creates and documents disparate pieces of data together to uncover insights and then create concise and compelling stories to bring those insights to life - all linked to priorities to drive the business.
  • Leads the development of a collection database, dashboards, and infographics so that the insights and implications are easy to interpret and act on.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Education/ Certifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in economics, Market Research, Data Analytics, Business Analytics or another job-related field.

Experience:
  • 3-5 years equivalent business experience in consulting, consumer/market insights, competitive intelligence, marketing research preferred.
  • Experience with traditional market and consumer research sources (Nielsen, SPINS, NPD, GNPD, Ipsos, Euromonitor, Mintel, etc.)
  • Experience in developing models of information and processes for communicating data, especially pertaining to the macro-economic landscape.

Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of economic and industry trends, opportunities, products, and competitors.
  • Strong analytical/data interpretation skills and ability to translate data and analysis into actionable recommendations, pulling through to your own succinct 'So
    What' analysis on why this matters to the industry or business.
  • Strong writing (including concise written analysis, grammar, punctuation), communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong understanding of the macro-economic environment with ability to model and forecast as needed.
  • Proactively gather information and understand where relevant sources exist.
  • Effectively present information internally to the SBI team and management/public groups as needed.
  • Comfort in questioning, challenging, and re-working your own analysis, along with the team's analysis, to push and grow thinking beyond the obvious.
  • Experience in listening to and analyzing earnings calls in real-time.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint; highly proficient in Excel and/or some other data visualization software.
  • Can accept and incorporate feedback into all deliverables/projects.
  • Comfort in working independently, managing your time efficiently, with the ability to prioritize on-going deliverables along with ad-hoc projects.
  • Display an immense level of attention to detail and pride in your work/analysis.
  • Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.

Work Environment:
  • Remote Role: This position is classified as remote where the associate will perform remote work from their primary residence. Remote associates are welcome to work from the office but are not required to do so. While remote associates are not required to work from an office on a regular basis, they may be required to come to the office or other UNFI locations for necessary business reasons or if directed to do so by their manager.
  • Travel (minor): This position may require the associate to travel to company offices, distribution centers, or other locations for specific meetings or other business reasons.
