Job description

Amphenol Pcd is seeking an experienced Field Applications Engineer to support our SPIN TACT product line. SPIN TACT provides highly engineered rotary interconnect solutions, including electrical slip rings, RF and waveguide rotary joints, fiber-optic rotary joints and integrated fluid-transfer technologies.

In this highly customer-facing role, you will serve as the primary technical liaison between our customers, sales organization, product management and engineering teams. You will work directly with aerospace, defense and other advanced-technology customers to understand their system requirements, recommend appropriate interconnect solutions and support successful product integration.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical aptitude with the communication and relationship-building skills needed to support strategic customers and drive new business opportunities. Direct experience with slip rings or rotary joints is preferred but not required. Candidates with relevant experience in RF, microwave, fiber optics, motion control, electromechanical systems or other highly engineered products are encouraged to apply.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the primary technical resource for customers evaluating, specifying and integrating slip rings and rotary interconnect solutions.
  • Partner with customers to understand their technical requirements, operating environments and application challenges.
  • Recommend appropriate rotary interconnect solutions based on customer specifications, system requirements and performance objectives.
  • Deliver technical product presentations, demonstrations and training to prospective and existing customers.
  • Support the sales team throughout the business-development process by providing technical expertise, developing product recommendations and participating in customer meetings.
  • Collaborate with customers during the design phase to provide Design for Manufacturability support and ensure successful product integration.
  • Review customer specifications, drawings and technical documentation to identify appropriate standard or custom-engineered solutions.
  • Work closely with product management and engineering teams to evaluate new applications and define technical requirements for custom products.
  • Support technical proposals, product configurations, design reviews and customer qualification activities.
  • Assist customers with technical troubleshooting, product selection and integration challenges.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with engineers, technical decision-makers and other stakeholders at strategic customer accounts.
  • Gather voice-of-customer feedback, market intelligence and competitive information to support product development and commercial strategy.
  • Provide technical training and support to the company’s sales representatives and distribution partners.
  • Manage multiple customer opportunities and technical projects while maintaining urgency, responsiveness and consistent follow-through.
  • Travel approximately 25%–30% throughout the United States to visit customers, support sales activities and participate in industry events.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills / Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in application engineering, technical sales, sales engineering, product engineering, systems engineering or another customer-facing engineering role.
  • Demonstrated professional experience designing, specifying, integrating, selling or providing technical application support for slip rings, rotary joints, rotary unions or comparable rotary power and signal-transfer systems.
  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Strong technical aptitude and/or engineering degree
  • Ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Strong time management, urgency, and follow-through capabilities
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of electrical slip rings used in aerospace, defense, naval, industrial or other demanding applications.
  • Familiarity with RF, microwave, waveguide, fiber-optic rotary joint or photonic technologies.
  • Background in integrated rotary solutions combining power, electrical signals, RF, fiber optics or fluid transfer.
  • Exposure to aerospace, defense, radar, SATCOM, EO/IR, robotics, gimbal, turret, antenna-positioning or motion-control applications.
  • Demonstrated success supporting custom-engineered products from initial customer concept through design, qualification and production.
  • Ability to prepare technical proposals, participate in design reviews and provide Design for Manufacturability guidance.
  • Previous work with strategic accounts, manufacturers’ representatives or distribution partners.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent relevant work experience.

The base salary range for this role is $82,000 USD - $92,000 USD, plus bonus. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. PCD considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
