Internal Audit drives the achievement of Humana's strategic and financial objectives. The Senior Internal Auditor provides value-added service by evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of Humana's operational processes.

The Senior Internal Auditor owns audit engagements by leading walkthrough discussions, performing detail reviews, and identifying process gaps within business processes. Detailed role responsibilities:

  • Lead engagements while establishing own work priorities and timelines
  • Conduct process walkthroughs with business owners to identify internal controls and assess their design
  • Review testing of key controls to ensure internal controls and processes are designed and operating effectively
  • Identify audit issues and root causes, recommend improvements, and work with business partners to improve outstanding issues
  • Provide constructive on-the-job feedback and mentoring throughout projects to staff and interns
  • Conduct operational, compliance, financial and investigative audits that may require in-depth evaluation and judgment
  • Determine the scope of audits to best evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of the systems and controls under audit
  • Help develop the risk-based audit plan, including risk identification
  • Provide leadership to departmental committees and initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • 3 or more years of audit experience
  • Experience leading walkthroughs discussions and identifying controls
  • Experience consulting across teams and managing multiple projects at a time
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and projects, while focusing on the "big picture"
  • Experience establishing working relationships with associates within the department and the business

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications such as CPA, CIA, PMP, CFE
  • Prior audit experience in the healthcare industry and/or public accounting
  • Data Analytics / Business Intelligence experience a plus. Prior experience with data analytics tools, including but not limited to, PowerBI, Alteryx, Tableau, SQL, R & Python
  • Six Sigma Black Belt, Process Improvement and/or Quality Control expertise

Additional Information

  • Humana's Louisville headquarters is the preferred location, qualified remote candidates located outside of Louisville, KY, will also be considered
  • You must be willing to work standard daytime hours in either the Eastern or Central time zone
Work at Home Requirements: To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees' ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria: At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is required; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested. In certain roles, the minimum recommended internet speed required by Humana may not be sufficient for business needs. Humana reserves the right to require associates to upgrade their internet service if necessary. Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


$86,300 - $118,700 per year


This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
