What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Program Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Program Manager, you need strong project management expertise, strategic planning abilities, and a background in business or a related field, often supported by a PMP or similar certification. Familiarity with project management tools like Asana, Jira, or Trello, and experience with virtual collaboration platforms such as Slack or Zoom, are typically required. Exceptional communication, organizational skills, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for leading distributed teams and managing stakeholders remotely. These competencies ensure efficient program delivery, foster alignment across locations, and drive successful outcomes in a virtual environment.

How does a Remote Program Manager effectively coordinate projects and maintain communication with distributed teams?

Remote Program Managers typically use a combination of project management software, regular virtual meetings, and clear documentation to coordinate tasks across multiple locations and time zones. Effective communication is key, so they often establish structured routines—such as weekly status updates or daily stand-ups—to ensure alignment and quickly address any blockers. Building strong relationships with team members through transparent communication and fostering a culture of accountability are essential to overcoming the unique challenges of remote collaboration.

What is remote program management?

Remote program management is the practice of overseeing and coordinating multiple related projects or initiatives from a location outside of a traditional office setting, often leveraging digital tools and virtual collaboration platforms. Program managers in remote roles are responsible for aligning project objectives with organizational goals, managing resources, and ensuring effective communication among distributed teams. Job description

Technical Program Manager (Data Platform & Infrastructure Team) About Chartis The challenges facing US healthcare are longstanding and all too familiar. We are Chartis, and we believe in better. We work with more than 1,900 organizations annually to develop and activate transformative strategies, operating models, and organizational enterprises that make US healthcare more affordable, accessible, safe, and human.

With more than 1,450 professionals, we help providers, payers, technology innovators, retail companies, and investors create and embrace solutions that tangibly and materially reshape healthcare for the better. Our family of brands—Chartis, Jarrard, Greeley, and HealthScape Advisors—is 100% focused on healthcare and each has a longstanding commitment to helping transform healthcare in big and small ways. Believe in better.

Chartis has offices in Boston, Chicago, New York, Washington D.C., and Nashville. Remote work is allowed. Role Overview Working within our Data Platform & Infrastructure team, Chartis is seeking a Technical Program Manager to lead complex, high-impact initiatives across the data platform and product portfolio.

This role is intended for a highly experienced project leader who can independently own delivery, align senior stakeholders, and drive execution across engineering, analytics, and product teams. This is a senior, highly autonomous role with significant visibility and influence. The Technical Program Manager will operate as a trusted partner to data engineering and product leadership, ensuring initiatives are delivered with rigor, clarity, and executive-ready communication.

You should have a deep familiarity with technical concepts and systems design and be able to weigh the technical risks and benefits of impactful business decisions. You are a doer who is comfortable operating in small, early-stage teams where everyone is hands-on. Responsibilities Lead complex data platform and infrastructure initiatives end to end, owning scope, timelines, dependencies, risks, and delivery outcomes across multiple workstreams.

Drive alignment among senior technical and business stakeholders, translating complex technical efforts into clear plans, tradeoffs, and decisions. Partner closely with data engineering, product engineering, and consulting leaders to inform scoping, sequencing, and delivery based on technical constraints and priorities, escalating and facilitating decisions as needed. Outline process maps that clearly illustrate the risks, dependencies, resourcing challenges, and testing needs required for end-to-end solution development and deployment.

Develop and maintain executive-ready artifacts including roadmaps, project plans, status updates, and risk assessments, with a high bar for clarity and polish. Establish and evolve project management practices that improve delivery predictability, transparency, and cross-team coordination. Enable delivery teams by removing blockers and improving operating cadence, rather than managing day-to-day task execution.

Mentor junior project or program managers, as applicable, and contribute to the maturity of the broader delivery function. Qualifications and Desired Skills 8–12+ years of experience in technical project or program management roles, with substantial exposure to data platforms, product, or infrastructure initiatives. Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex, cross-functional initiatives with minimal oversight.

Strong technical fluency in modern data and infrastructure ecosystems, including cloud data platforms (e.g., Azure), data pipelines, analytics tooling, and BI environments (e.g., Snowflake, dbt, Python-based pipelines, Tableau). Proven experience partnering with data engineering, product engineering, and platform teams to inform scope, sequencing, and delivery plans. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce polished, executive-ready materials and synthesize complex technical topics for non-technical audiences.

Salary range: $146,000 - $192,000, plus may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. The salary range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skills, experience, training, licensure and certifications, practice area, and other business and organizational needs. In addition, Chartis offers several benefits including medical, dental, vision, HSA, FSA, disability insurance, life insurance, 401(k) match, paid time off, wellness stipend, and additional voluntary benefits.

At Chartis, we pride ourselves on having a diverse workforce. We value and celebrate the uniqueness of individuals and the different perspectives the provide. We offer equal opportunity employment regardless of race, color, religion, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability status, age, marital status, or protected veteran status.
