Job description

VETS, Inc., is looking to add a highly experienced SAP Transportation Management (TM) expert Functional Subject Matter Expert (SME) with specialized expertise in Commercial and DoD Strategic Sealift operations to support the Agile TM Team on the Joint Transportation Management System (JTMS), a large-scale SAP S/4HANA transformation program to our growing team. This is a remote opportunity based out of the Saint Louis area and work in hand. Due to contractual requirements, this position requires a security clearance or US Citizenship/ability to obtain a clearance.
This role is critical to designing and enabling maritime transportation capabilities that support global force projection, cargo movement, and sustainment operations. You will work within an Agile team to translate complex sealift operational requirements into scalable SAP TM solutions, ensuring alignment with mission needs, regulatory requirements, and system capabilities.
This position requires deep domain expertise in maritime logistics and SAP TM, along with the ability to influence solution design across transportation, supply chain, and financial domains.
Responsibilities:
Serve as the functional authority for SAP Transportation Management (TM) focused on ocean and sealift operations.

• Design and configure TM solutions supporting:

  • Ocean freight planning, booking, and execution
  • Vessel scheduling, routing, and capacity management
  • Multi-modal transportation scenarios integrating sea, land, and port operations
  • Freight cost management and settlement processes

• Align TM capabilities with complex maritime transportation requirements and mission constraints.

Strategic & Commercial Sealift Operations

• Apply deep knowledge of DoD DoW Strategic Sealift and commercial maritime logistics to system design and process optimization.
• Support planning and execution processes for:
  • Military cargo movement via sealift
  • Port operations, staging, and embarkation/debarkation
  • Coordination with commercial carriers and government-owned assets

• Ensure system solutions reflect real-world operational constraints, timelines, and mission priorities.

End-to-End Logistics Integration

• Lead integration between SAP TM and upstream/downstream systems, including:

  • SD (order management) for demand signals
  • EWM/Yard Logistics for port, staging, and warehouse coordination
  • FI/CO/FM for freight cost capture, billing, and financial tracking

• Ensure seamless data flow and process alignment across transportation planning, execution, and financial settlement.

Agile Delivery & Product Development

• Operate as a senior member of an Agile team, participating in:

  • Sprint planning, backlog refinement, stand-ups, and retrospectives

• Translate operational needs into user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional designs.

• Collaborate with Product Owners to prioritize sealift and maritime transportation capabilities.

• Deliver iterative enhancements aligned with program milestones and mission objectives.

Requirements Analysis & Solution Design

• Conduct fit-gap analysis between current maritime operations and SAP TM capabilities.

• Develop functional specifications and configuration designs for scalable and compliant solutions.

• Recommend approaches that balance standard SAP functionality with specialized sealift requirements.

Testing, Validation & Deployment

• Lead and support functional and integration testing (SIT/UAT) for maritime transportation scenarios.

• Validate end-to-end flows including:

  • Cargo planning, vessel assignment, shipment execution, and tracking

• Support cutover planning, deployment, and post-go-live stabilization.

Operational Optimization & Continuous Improvement

• Analyze sealift operations to identify efficiency improvements, cost optimization opportunities, and risk reduction strategies.

• Recommend and implement enhancements to improve visibility, planning accuracy, and execution performance.

Data Integrity, Visibility & Issue Resolution

• Ensure accuracy of transportation data, shipment status, and freight cost information.

• Support development and validation of operational dashboards and reporting.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Business, or related field
  • 8+ years of SAP functional experience, with deep specialization in SAP Transportation Management (TM)
  • Proven experience supporting SAP S/4HANA implementations, preferably in large, complex environments
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end transportation and logistics operations
  • Ability to facilitate workshops, influence stakeholders, and drive consensus across diverse teams
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
